Commander Keen IRC Channel?
Is there an IRC channel for CK fans?
If not, want me to make one?

Oooh... there WAS one a REALLY long time ago...
Don't remember where it was. Let me look it up...
NOPE can't find it.
These forums kind of defeat the point of an IRC channel. Most of us use MSN (Or at least used to) to communicate outside these forums.
If you were to make a server, no one would really be on it anyway.

I think there's actually been two of them, even. But don't ask me where, I can't remember. I don't care about IRC myself.
My newest mod - Commander Keen: Sunset: viewtopic.php?t=8568 | codename H.Y.E.N.A.
gerstrong tried to start a channel to discuss the development of CloneKeenPlus, but there wasn't much point, because I was the only one chatting with him there, and sometimes Spleen was logged in (but I've never seen a word from him there)
A keen fan IRC channel would probably be empty as well I guesse'd

How does one go about starting an IRC channel, anyway?
I think a PCKF chatroom would be cool. It'd be fun talking in real-time, and plus there wouldn't be any sort of restrictions like staying on topic or anything (not that it's much of a problem now, though )
EDIT: So most people here have MSN, right?
Ehh... I'd make another account, but that would be like the 4th one I've made, since I usually never use them. I'd feel stupid starting a new one.
EDIT2: Wait, you just have to join a new chatroom to start one? So basically all we have to do is go onto something like freenode.net and join #commanderkeen or #keeners or something?

Over 100,000 people are on quakenet dialy and that's just only one server..wiivn wrote:Who uses irc anyway? there's skype, facebook...
It'll only work if everyone on the forum uses IRC, otherwise it'll be really empty.
There are a few commands for it, but it's not hard at all. And I don't think we need an über advanced chatroom for only a few peopleEDIT2: Wait, you just have to join a new chatroom to start one? Skype have more than 17 000 000 online users, facebook have more than 340 000 000 users.
Anyway, that doesn't matter. If you want, make an irc channel. Personally, I don't see any particular reason on using irc. We've discussed almost every keen related topic already. Unless there is something specific to talk about, like developing of a new game, it's pointless.

IRC got 3,800,000. But okok you win, Skype got more ::moonSkype have more than 17 000 000 online users
Seems like there's some interest in it, but in the past nobody was actually there. That does make it pointless as not everyone is using IRC. A direct link from pckf might work out, but that's up to you, I don't know how to link an IRC channel to a site.

And there is a world market for maybe five computers. We've discussed almost every keen related topic already
It's not just about discussing the original games (though even on that level we still seem to find more to talk about as time goes on), but also for coordinating collaborative projects, troubleshooting modding efforts, or just ranting about our other interests that happen to overlap.
