maybe the gravity on that planets is much less (which will also explain his high jumps). Letting him falling more slowly (these planets were realy small , total vorticon population:between 500-1000).

Now explain why Keen is able to walk from one of Mars' poles to the other several times within the space of a few hours...

its a game...do you realise how long it would take them to build mars to proportion? it'd take us literally days to get him up there. sorry, dont mean to insult anyone, just saying

This Kicks Ass

Post by Arjak »

This is the greatest thing I've seen in a long time.

I already posted in the other thread, but here's a quote of it:
Arjak wrote:I have just played the first few levels of Keys and I can only say one thing:

It's like Christmas '92 finally came.

The mansion levels actually gave me chills, seeing those pictures on the walls of the enemies in past games, reminding me of everything that Keen has gone through, and now, I feel vindicated.

I feel vindicated that I am a Keen fan.

There was only one problem with this game, and that was the help screens. There were a lot of misspellings and inconsistencies:

-Cannon is misspelled as canon both times in the story text.

-In Keen's talk with Barker in the story text, the is misspelled as he at one point.

-In the previews of Episodes 8 and 9, at one point, Episode 9 is named Battle of the Brains. Later, you say it hasn't been named yet.

-The text upon quitting was mostly unchanged from Episode 4.

If you can fix these small nitpicks, I will be the happiest fan on Earth!

Now, what I loved of the little bit that I played:

-The graphics were great, especially the title screen. When I was waiting through the intro, I was hoping for a new one, and you didn't disappoint.

-The level design felt authentic. I like how in the first mansion level, you are tested on your pogo skills to reach the first door.

-It began right where Episode 6 left off. This felt important to me as a fan because it made me feel like the earlier episodes mattered.

-The new music was wonderful. It fits well with the impending doom feeling.

-Barker. It made me feel like Invasion of the Vorticons is still an important part of the Keen mythos. Having the Vorticons repay the favor of Keen saving them was a great feeling.

P.S. Keep these games coming!
I also found another bug after making this post:

-The high score screen comes up as a demo.

Yeah, I agree with you (with the exception of the music). I felt like Christmas 92 too ;).

Who made the music? With which software?

This made me want to be able to make that kind of music myself.

I made three of those songs, Ceilick made one + edited two existing midis. I made the songs using this program: http://www.anvilstudio.com/

I remember my first experience with anvilstudio. It was very unforgiving :sick
You should go with FLstudio instead. Unless Anvil has gotten more user-friendly in the past few years. :dead2

Well, I use FL normally. It's the sounds used in the songs that I'm really after..

Yeah, I used anvil studio also, only because I couldn't find anything else that was free :dopekeen Editing songs was relatively simple, composing my own ended up just being me mashing keys and going back through to change the excessively bad parts. I'm not a composer :o

Edit: To find the sounds(instraments), you can open the song in IMF creator: http://winwolf3d.dugtrio17.com/download/IMFCreator

I'm not either. I once tried to 'compose' something on my keyboard, and because I didn't know how, I selected random voices and hit random keys. :crazy When I was done, it actually sounded a lot like a 'Star Trek' track! :dopekeen

MORAL: Compose randomly, and you'll get cool effects. :drool

Your very welcome. :british
  1. Purchase a YAMAHA keyboard.
  2. Get a MIDI interface cable.
  3. Follow the insructions to record a song.
  4. Plug in the cable.
  5. Check the manual on how to send music.
  6. Do what the manual says.
  7. A MIDI will be copied to your "My Music" folder or a subfolder.
