Star Wars: The Last Jedi [WARNING: SPOILERS]

Post by keenmaster486 » Fri Dec 15, 2017 11:38

My jaw is permanently glued to the floor. I shall not be able to remove it for some time.

I did not think they could top The Force Awakens. I was wrong.

The Luke Skywalker apparition scene alone was mind-blowing enough to top even the best scenes from the original trilogy.

And it turns out, the whole time, Snoke was ancillary! They are focused like a laser beam on the story of the Skywalker family. I really don't think Rey is a nobody. There's no way.

Thoughts?

(Hopefully you didn't open this if you haven't seen the movie yet. I marked the title as spoilers so tough if you did)
I flermmed the plootash just like you asked.

Should this thread be in The Theater rather than Miscellaneous? Anyway, I think I'm going to see it with family shortly before Christmas

This movie is a mess. Half of the runtime is just filler.
You could cut out every scene with Finn and the whole movie would be exactly the same. It adds nothing to the story.
But Poe's plotline is even worse. If he wouldn't do anything, hundreds of rebels would still be alive (or even Luke). He just should have listen to the admiral, sit down and shut his mouth.
But this all could be easily avoided if the admiral told Poe her plan. :no

I liked it, I liked it a lot! Better than the previous one (and I liked that too) in my opinion. I'm going to see it for a second time later this year.

My favourite scene. Along with the fight with Snoke's private guards. And the Rey + Kylo Ren telepathy scenes... :love

Heh, I thought that was pretty much established since the beginning of the previous movie. :p But sure, she seems to be exceptionally strong, considering she has had no training whatsoever. But can she can resist the dark side of force? :mort

Whereas the Finn and Poe lines didn't feel as important as Rey's, they had their part in the whole. Theirs were not the worst plot lines I've seen this year. Which admittedly doesn't mean much...

I... don't know how to feel about the movie. It was awesome when I watched it and I thought it's better than Force Awakens. But the more I think about it, the flat the movie appears to me.

Whether it is the not convenient cannon that was not able to shoot at the end. Or the "salty" salt scenery for the whole purpose of it looking something different, but was kinda meh. Or the ridiculous Luke Skywalker "teleportation". So Jedi's can teleport? Or make holograms of themselves at other places? Was this an Jedi ability already existed or they just find it out? And why he should die? They killed a lot of characters, like Akbar. Or the over the top and very forceful inclusion of an alien cow just for the entertainment purposes. Or the mediocre acting scenes of Rey on the island at the most of the time. Or the biggest surprise when they killed Snork, who also had only a few minutes screenplay. Or Kylo, who's also debatable. Or the kiss scene of that Chinese girl, which felt out of the place.

I really thought there would be some more interesting relationship scenes between Kylo and Ren. It would have been more cool, if she had decided to join him, making the audience shocked, only to turn him to the good side in the 9-th episode. Instead, they played it safe with Ray staying apart from Kylo. Too bad for all the Reylo theories, which were more than convenient.

I liked it. It is Episode 8 so my expectation were low. It was positively surprised.

Is the best Star Wars movie? No, but I did not expect that. The best for me is the original trilogy and that cannot be topped by anything else.

I just don't understand what there is to like. I hated The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi is worse.

I watched the whole Half in the Bag review, good video, Dr. Colossus. Really have to agree with their statement that the Star Wars we're getting is creatively bankrupt, and the saddest part of that to me is it in no way had to be this way. These characters could have had compelling stories within a larger compelling story, Star Wars didn't have to be reduced to the same, already been done, perpetual empire vs rebellion dynamic (Indeed it shouldn't have been, shouldn't the Return of the Jedi have meant something? Anything? The Jedi returned to disappear again between movies and now we have the last one?). Even the prequels had a somewhat interesting story under the surface about the destruction of the Republic and rise of the Empire. This Star Wars is just visual flare and the "so cool" moments with an empty story and characters I would have liked to care about but don't. Or so it feels to me. Oh well.

The only thing i Liked was Poe being shown being above average pilot
due to him knowing the advantage of "Kill engine" in space (something you can easily do in Freelancer)
and Luke's line to Kylo "if you strike me down in hatred i will haunt you"
and when Luke made fun of Rey with the leaf

Did any of you notice that there was a "Gunnery Trooper" at the bridge of the dreadnought?
to the left, you know the once with the helmet that handle Cannon' and the Deathstar's planet killer Beam

The bombers.... those F*cking bombers...
they are a worse Y-Wing, slower less agile and insanely volatile...
who in their right mind would fly them, let alone escort them outside of Crazy Ivan's....
have the Rebels lost every single of their B-Win'sg and Y-Wing's?
do they have any (T-65) X-Wing's left at all?

Finn came across a more capable Jarjar Binks, in force awakens, and was pretty much the same here in Lats jedi
when he decided to sacrifice himself for the rest rebels, he stepped out of he's jar jar binks shoes
only to have the Asian chick save him with "Love" and potentially wipe out the rebels
if it wasn't for Luke finally deciding to be Luke for once in the Movie....
and ruin that with him being a force projection....

Ray is the most capable force and light saber user despite having no training...
Luke didn't train her, she trained herself by swinging it around.... ending up cutting a rock in half and destroying a cart....
I'm not a fan of Rey's Character quite the opposite, a lot of my frustration in the new trilogy is Rey alone...
I mean Come on: she can understand fluid Droid, possible as many languages as C-3PO, Great star ship Repair
Great pilot, can even line of shots for turret that have it's rotation arc jammed, doing a "kill engine" in gravity
can use force Pull, wielding a light saber. despite swinging it like a spear, the wight of a spear/staff is not the same of a light saber...
and escaping by deus ex Mindtricks.....

Leia, we know Carrie fisher have passed on, but do they have to drag her character along for 1-2 more movies?...
They had 2 moments for a worthy death for her Character
doing the Destruction of the bridge of the Cruiser only for her to float back to the cruiser with the force...
how did he get past the "Hull breach" she opened a door without going trough an air lock.
I though the cruiser was rendered dead in the ocean, due to the bridge being destroyed, R.I.P. Admiral Ackbar o7
and she should had stay back on the Cruiser and have her ram it trough the colossus "stealth bomber" with light speed
instead of the other (New) Admiral
The effect shot was great, but i was deafened by my own silent scream, that this is now a thing....
The Mutiny that happened on the Cruiser under the (new) Admiral is silly
what is the point in Officers if you keep your ranking Officers in the Dark
when keeping morale is crucial!, no wonder people abandoned ship.... when you in a coffin in space.
(if my cousin had not spoiled like would be in the end, i would had walked out there......)
Light speed Kamikaze, seems to be role the Bomber was made for...
also is the Extended universe Caenon or NOT!

I could write more things about what is wrong with Luke, Poe and Hux, the Casino, Limited fuel for Sub-light speed....
maybe i will add it Later, if i can do it without drinking a Bootle of cooling fluid....

Also; they seem to Kill of a Legacy character with every movie in the new Trilogy...
what will happen to chewie if this was a Quadrilogy....

I think we can all agree that the Yoda puppet and appearance was probably the most memorable and well done moment of the movie😂

You were warned! I agree, Yoda appearance was a delight. I want to forget most of the other stuff though. No wonder JJ Abrams passed on the directing seat for this one, the writing was a mess.

While Yoda's appearance itself was welcome, what little he said rally highlights what I hated most about the movie.

First, he tells Luke to destroy the Jedi texts because, basically, "Rey already knows everything they could have taught her". Nearly everyone who dislikes Rey does so for this reason, that she's inexplicably awesome at the force, among other things, without any training whatsoever. Maybe, maybe the third movie will explain this in a way that makes sense and thematically justifies throwing it in the viewers face so flagrantly in two movies and then this line from Yoda. Probably not though.

Second, the manner in which he talks to Luke. Luke, at this point, is at a minimum a Jedi knight if not a master, and Yoda talks to him like he's a fool and a nobody that somehow had some success with the force. I hate the way the movie treats Luke, and I don't just mean him giving up on the rebelion and living the hermit life. The movie basically tells the viewer "Luke, the guy who became a Jedi Master and was the hero of the rebelion? He just got lucky and let his one success go to his head. He's not even a very good Jedi, and just gives into fear all the time.". And Luke's last stand at the end was, in my opinion, lame. Old Ben vs Vader was a better lightsaber duel. The movie made Luke a loser in my eyes, and that's like taking a torch to Star Wars altogether.

They didn't have to make their new trilogy's main character awesome at everything and trash the old main character to get fans to like and accept her. Poe is literally the only character I even like because of his character flaws of over confidence and impatience and the fact that he messes up and knows it as well as the price of his mistake (even if it was Holdo's fault for being a garbage admiral. Why would you withhold info from, aka supplying ammo to, a loose cannon like Poe? How hard would it have been for the writers to include a subplot of her withholding the info for fear of a mole/traitor aboard gaining info on the plan?)
