Certainly, in the Simpsons context it's a design choice while in Keen it was a technical compromise, but in the end white skin is the only way we've know Keen in the canon games. It's as much a part of his identity as the pogo stick.
Keen would have had skin color had they ever made a VGA Keen game.
I just don't like seeing white-skinned Keen in any environment other than a 16 color game.
Anyway, here's a round of EmotiKeen's I started on that I probably won't finish since it's clear that it's absolutely pointless. I hope someone finds some kind of use for them.
The point I was trying to make was that there is no need to stretch out Keen's head sprite from the Galaxy games, whenever there was full sized "EmotiKeen's" already made and used in the cutscenes.
I'm sure someone could do a better job making them more expressive and utilize this template better. Perhaps you could scale them down slightly as well to conform to the forums standards.
I like Paramultart's idea. I think it's a good compromise: it looks cleaner than the current emotikeens but is still "classic Keen" in that it uses original Keen art as the base. They'd need to be scaled down a tiny bit from their actual sizes is the one problem, as otherwise they'd be a tad to large, but other than that I think they would look pretty neat.

Err... I don't know how that last one got there.
They're cool, but since I don't like emoticons in general, I don't care.
