It may be due to Canada's recent love of mining all the oil they can get their grubby mitts on. It's amazing how fast they've swept aside environmental concerns in the name of an oil boom.

What one is at the moment may not reflect what one usually is. The government at the moment is not a typical canadian government, and their opinion polls are pretty low.
