ED is mostly maintained by anons, some of which contributed to a lot of memes and internet culture.

Knowyourmeme takes that culture and makes it accessible to dumb hipster foob while slapping a brand name on them to boot.

Explaining memes, especially to a broad audience, completely makes them void of any funniness whatsoever. Just like Caturday was hilarious until icanhazcheezburger.com and lolcats came around, because funny cat pictures with n00bspeak was a great idea until actual n00bs became the ones writing them. All the irony gets lost, the captions are not clever anymore, and the meme then belongs to Owl City tweens and douchebags everywhere. The first quote on the ED page pretty much sums it up.
