Merry Christmas 2018, everyone. It can't be too early for the retailers!
Edit: also, Rorie, I can think of a lot of corporations more evil than McDonald's.

Halloween, Easter, Christmas it is all about the business, stores always sell the merchandise earlier and earlier each year!keenmaster486 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2017 17:17 Merry Christmas 2018, everyone. It can't be too early for the retailers!

And about the golden archers they show themselves everywhere, I could just not go there but then again, I would be missing out on some bloody good coffee! as they make the best Down Under and also sometimes you do not have a choice if you're on the road as they populate many truck stops!
And also Easter, Christmas it ain't even about meaning anymore, I am becoming a grumpy old bah humbug!

How The Grorinch Stole Keenmas
by Dr. Lass
Every Keen Down in Keenville Liked Keenmas a lot...
But the Grorinch, who lived down under Keenville, Did NOT!
The Grorinch hated Keenmas! The whole Keenmas season!
Now, please don't ask why. Well all quite know the reason.
It could be his computerwrist wasn't screwed on just right.
It could be, perhaps, he had his helmet on too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all,
May have been that his wallet was two sizes too small.
Whatever the reason, his wallet or helmet,
He stood there on Keenmas Eve, hating it yet,
Staring up from his outback with a sour, Grorinchy frown,
At the warm colored forums below in their town.
For he knew every Keener down in Keenville below,
Was busy now, hanging up a holy pogo.
"And they're hanging their stockings!" he snarled with a sneer,
"Tomorrow is Keenmas! It's practically here!"
Then he growled, with his Grorinch fingers nervously drumming,
"I MUST find some way to stop Keenmas from coming!"
For Tomorrow, he knew, all the Keener girls and boys,
Would wake bright and early. They'd rush for point and for toys!
What you really need, not what you think you ought to want.

Nice Try but you failed to rekindle my Christmas or should I say Keenmas Spirit, the idea of business profiteering off a Christian Holiday turns me off completely, not that I am a practicing Christian anyways, Religion gets in the way of Australian Politics and certain rights and freedoms such as voluntary euthanasia and marriage equality, it is sad that there is so much hate in Australia right now towards gay marriage, one you have the church say one thing and then supporters fire right back at the church, can't we as Australians have a respectable debate and vote on the issue, I understand if some have voted No, but to say hateful things towards homosexuals is another, can't everybody including our Religious Leaders, Pollies, Supporters & Opponents just learn to get along?Levellass wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2017 13:59

Visited the bank to request a debit card from one of their subsidiaries I am visually impaired and the 2 visa cards that I hold in my name are difficult to remember which account is linked to which, went back there today to try again. bank has sent request off for another card, surely the same thing cannot happen twice right?, In case you ask I'm with Bank of Melbourne slash St.George, when I opened my account it was St.George before Westpac took over the business, So I cannot understand why the branch in Albury got it wrong, probably due to state boundaries, this time the teller from Corio called the branch within New South Wales not Victoria, not close to any state borders, I am hopeful that this time they'll get it right however will have to wait another week to find out!

I just needed to get that out as I've just neatly had a loose plot thread wrapped up for me in the most perfect way and it's given me feels.
As you were, everyone.

Re: OFF TOPIC THREAD: Where derailing the thread is impossible!
Let's take a moment to talk about what I like to call the "sticky eraser" phenomenon.
Leave a rubber eraser sitting on certain surfaces for too long, and some kind of chemical reaction will happen, causing the eraser to turn itself and the surface into a sticky rubber-cement-like substance.
It happens with finished tables and cabinets, standard No. 2 yellow pencils, plastic cases, and many other seemingly unrelated items.
What is this? Does anyone know? Or are demons inhabiting my erasers?

Re: OFF TOPIC THREAD: Where derailing the thread is impossible!
It's probably the eraser material itself breaking down. I've had a few do that. It's not always cheap ones, either.

This happens with a lot of materials, especially latex. (Hence we were taught about this, as a side note in sex ed, and later more thoroughly in relation to maintaining surgical equipment.) 'Rubber', in the main, consists of two basic parts, a plastic polymer substance and various additives and softeners to better suit it for its purpose.
When exposed to oxygen and especially sunlight the polymer breaks down (This is usually S-S bonds that hold the various polymer chains together.) Much like plastic going brittle and bleaching it is in effect reverse-polymerizing and returning to the sticky substance it was formed from. (Namely tree sap.) This is a broader issue than with latex however since the various additives also lend a sticky texture to even artificial rubberlike plastics.
Also chewing gum is made out of the same stuff as soda bottles, just less polymerized.

Re: OFF TOPIC THREAD: Where derailing the thread is impossible!
Thanks for the explanation, Levellass! Explains why the old rubber Thomas the Tank Engine toy I found recently was sticky all over. I knew something had happened to the material but just chalked it up to age alone.
Keening_Product was defeated before the game.

Incidentally, that's also why some kinds of lube aren't compatible with latex condoms or with silicone or jelly rubber, erm, bedroom aids. (Also why you should never store toys of different materials in such a way they can contact one another. Funky melting stuff happens.)
