Well, the new captch-o-matic is in place on the registration form. It's pretty basic, but let's hope it's good enough to trip up Mortimer's evil army of enslaved spam-bot clones!!

Very nice. Simple, but hopefully confusing to computers.

I noticed that the filenames are enemy1.png enemy2.png enemy3.png--would a spambot be able to pick up on that?

I doubt it, definitely not with their current programming, at least. And after that it'd probably help a lot if the files were given random data strings as names. I think we'll be safe for quite some time with this setup. :)

Yeah, the biggest benefit of this system against bots is that it is unique -- it's not likely anyone's going to go to the trouble of customising their scripts just for a single low-traffic site.

But if they do, randomising the filenames is straightforward.

Yeah, that creatures thing should be a nice way of stopping spambots, at least for a while. I don't think it's that likely that they'd go to the trouble of coding a spambot that can get around it just for the sake of spamming this relatively low-activity forum.
