Folding@Home is a distributed computing organization that simulates protein folding to discover cures for diseases such as Parkinson's. The FAH client application receives work packets from Stanford University's servers and returns information when it finishes the task. On the default settings, FAH will not impact computer performance -- it only uses idle CPU power.
You can read more about Folding@Home at their website.
Teams of users can be formed to measure the statistics of a group of people. Many institutions and online communities have FAH teams. I went ahead and created a PCKF team, which was assigned ID 225011. To join the PCKF team, enter your username and the team ID in the appropriate text boxes in the client application.
Download Folding@Home for Windows x86
(You can find FAH for other platforms at their web site.)
Once you complete a work packet as a member of the PCKF team, your name will appear on the team page.
For science!

Funny, I was looking at their team rankings and I noticed that ASUS Republic of Gamers is #78 as of writing this.
I am waiting on joining this until I get one of those laptops. Bad system requirements like Lass

I'm afraid Dropbox, McAfee, and Chrome all already slowing my xp to a standstill, otherwise I'd volunteer. In a year or so I might have a faster computer to run this on, though.
