Any hardware experts on PCKF?
Hey guys, I'm trying to build a new PC using mostly recycled hardware, but I'm not having much luck finding what I need on NewEgg. I need an ATX (not micro) motherboard with support for PATA drives, SATA drives, as well as at least one PCI-Express slot. Standard PCI slots would be a plus, but not necessary. It should also be able to support a minimum of 8GB DDR. Would anyone know of a mobo that meets these specifications? Thank you in advance.

I can't think of any reason why you would want a PATA slot unless you have an old hard drive you wish to use. AFAIK you can always get a PATA card adapter and slap it in a PCI slot. I might be wrong but I think I remember something about it being possible.
Geez, I've stayed out of the computer loop for too long.

You are correct. My intention is to use an old IDE hard drive and PATA DVD-RW.
There are PATA/PCI adapters, but I am concerned that the computer will not immediately recognize the hard drive connected to it as the master and will require the drivers to be installed in order to even recognize it, thus rendering it only useful for "additional storage" and old HDD recovery projects.

The only motherboards that I can think of off the top of my head that support SATA/PATA jointly are ones that don't support that much RAM.
IIRC, some of the Dell Precisions (380, I think), or Dimension 8300 had support for both PATA+SATA...but they only have a 2GB memory limit...which doesn't meet the requirement of 8GB.
Just some thoughts...they may not be the most efficient means, but at least they might work:
Is it possible to find a way, by means of external chassis (or an older computer with SATA/PATA), connect a small capacity SATA drive, and your PATA drive in question and clone one to the other?
SATA DVD-RWs should be fairly cheap by now. It sounds like you don't need anything fancy like Lighscribe or stuff like that. I've seen them on newegg for as $18.
So by cloning your PATA hard drive to a SATA drive, getting a cheap SATA DVD-+RW, that should work around the issue of using older hardware.
By going all SATA, you can easily find a mobo that has a PCI-e slot (or 2).
Like I said, it's probably not the most efficient solution. But it's probably how I'd deal with it.
