Pretty sure the latest screen looked way better before you added the smoothing effects. But it looks like you took the previous image down, so I can't compare directly.
But overall this is very tasty work. And the style does indeed capture a similar atmosphere that I've been aiming for with OrbKeen. Certainly your monk style will be an influence when I redraw the title screen.

It's a side scrolling shooter where you can only move up and down and automatically fire constantly. The game will go on forever and increase in difficulty over time.
the difficulty increases as you destroy enemies (rather than over time). Enemies don't constantly spawn, new enemies only spawn once certain enemies from the previous lot have been destroyed.
I want the game to feel more like you're fighting a boss which evolves (so each enemy interacts with other enemy types in predictable manners and having certain enemies only being able to be killed at certain times) rather than having it feel like a bunch of non-connected enemies like in games like galaga.
It is going to be a rather short game and I hope to release it in the next month or two.
