Here's my stupid uneducated opinion on the commercialism/americanization/bastardization garg:
Halloween doesn't bother me. At least they try to make it fun and nobody cares if you decide not to do anything. Christmas is so much worse. You are expected, nay, forced, to partake in the commercialist bullgarg unless you become a hermit.
The invention of "Christmas" by the Roman Catholics to lure the old Norse and Celts out of their Winter Solstice tradition is just one of many atrocities of imperialism. People constantly stress that it's not about materialism, but it just enforces that's really what it is, or else that elephant in the room (that everybody mentions all the time) wouldn't be brought up so much.
I wish I could rant more, but I'm so tired right now.

Watched The Haunted Palace and The Tingler this year. The Tingler was a surprisingly competent horror movie despite the corny previews -- and it had a big ol' plot twist, too.tulip wrote:I'd probably watch a Vincent Price movie now, he's the best, but I might fall asleep.
Huh. Well there must be two kinds of Christmas then. The materialistic one and the Feast of the Birth of Jesus Christ, which He invented.VikingBoyBilly wrote:The invention of "Christmas" by the Roman Catholics to lure the old Norse and Celts out of their Winter Solstice tradition is just one of many atrocities of imperialism.
Thank'ee kindly. Here's to next year!Plasma Captain wrote:Troublesome, that is downright awesome, and now I regret not having carved a pumpkin.

Still it is something that Australia and the United States need to keep out of, we are two separate countries, in fact Australia is NO WAY near like the U.S, Australia keeps their nose out of American Culture, So We Aussies would expect the Americans to do the same!. For Heaven's sake Australia is NOT the 51st U.S State in fact we are completely independent nation despite being A Constitutional Monarch and not A republic even though it is growing more and more evident that some point in the future we will copy the American Style Republic and place term limits and ensure that any Future Australian President will have to have been born in Australia, I do not even know if we will even have A Prime Minister at all, most likely to be replaced by A Vice President which would be subjected to the same conditions as the Commander In Chief, so I guess that the American Invasion of Australia is coming and we cannot do anything about itKeening_Product wrote:Sadly it's growing in popularity. Finding Nemo is the biggest insult to Australian culture and identity in history. >:Levellass wrote:He's complaining about the fact that American culture is slowly crushing everything uniquely Australian. I got that much, it's just that this is the first that I've ever heard of this complaint, and the manner of his complaint is absurdly funny. As if we're deliberately invading Australia. Actually... now that I think about it, maybe we did vote to annex Australia a few months ago... I don't know; when I get to something on the ballot that I'm not sure about, I just guess what the right answer should be. Hey, it's how I got my degree.Levellass wrote:He's complaining about the fact that American culture is slowly crushing everything uniquely Australian.
