Other neat, non-gaming crowd funding campaigns

Post by Keening_Product »

I went to post this in the Kickstarter thread but found that was focused on digital games, so this thread is for things that don't fit that bill. If your post is about a game, visit wiivn's thread: viewtopic.php?t=2480&start=0

I can't afford/justify one, but there's a neat little 3D printer that has had an amazing start on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/m3 ... 3d-printer

Multi-platform, compatible with non-manufacturer software and plastic, and seemingly pretty slick. There's a lot to like if you only want to print little things and have the time to wait for the finished product.

At time of posting: 733 Backers, $174,898 pledged of $50,000 goal, 29 days to go.

This solar roadway is neat, and has actually caught the eye of the US government. It'll be interesting to see how many members of the general public actually invest in it, though: http://www.outsideonline.com/news-from- ... Roads.html

As for hoverbikes: http://www.engadget.com/2014/05/14/aero ... pre-order/

Can't mention solar paneled roads without Pokemon.

But there it's just the highway that's done up.

That's still pretty neat.

I do wonder how much energy the heated panels take. I imagine not much, but my assumptions are not facts.

individual damaged panels can be fixed in a matter of minutes because nearby panels deliver automated alerts to electricians.

That's three words. Good point though, given that even drain-covers are stolen for their scrap-value and the panels would no doubt contain all kinds of expensive electronics...

DHeadshot, please return those stolen hyphens. Pushing your goods where they shouldn't be will only get you arrested.

And I don't really think a mass-produced solar cell will be that appealing to criminals - can't really be used for much else and obviously it's not too expensive to make, otherwise there wouldn't be a proposal to make millions of them.

Solar panels aren't even all that expensive these days, remember, and the supporting electronics will be much less useful than a reel of copper wire from the railway tracks.
