Linux Mint 17.3 & also themes

Post by Paramultart »

Finally got back into Linux after my HDD (and thus Linux partition) crashed last year.

Feels gewd.

Does anyone know if there's a "theme" for Linux Mint that can make it look
exactly like Windows 2000/98?

I miss my Windows 2000 PC.

Also, I hate the Linux Mint "start menu"... You can't easily drag and drop icons,
or make new categories.

This distro feels more like a Mac... Too "idiot proof", meaning not easily customized,
and advanced features are hard to access.

Is that Mint running Cinnamon or XFCE as its DE?

XFCE, LXDE and MATE all have Redmond and RedmondXP themes in the default theme repos - you might find those useful.

The MATE menu is a step toward XP's.

Assuming this is for functionality and not nostalgia reasons, just jump to openSUSE's KDE implementation - it's the best desktop of any distro or OS, and I've tried many of them.

IceWM was designed to be similar to the old Windows desktop, both in terms of look and functionality. It's also pretty extensive in terms of configurability.

This looks awesome.
How do I switch from Cinnamon to IceWM?

I hate cinnamon. It doesn't even have a "create shortcut" option, so I have to
type "gnome-open "/home/link"" in every launcher I want to direct to a folder, which
I think is stupid. I also have a ton of other complaints about it that I'm too lazy to complain about.
