Tom Hall is a huge Mario Maker nerd and it's adorable

Post by Toomuchsparetime »

I've been playing No Man's Sky lately, which led me to a NMS discussion on Reddit, where a username called "ThatTomHall" caught my eye (he was making a terrible pun in response to someone's slightly cynical comment about the game) and I quickly found that he really is *THAT* Tom Hall and that most of his recent posts seem to be in /r/MarioMaker.

In case it hasn't been posted here yet, here are some "Keen" levels that Hall made in Mario Maker:

Goodness, it has been some time, hasn't it?

That truly is an adorable effort, and I speak as a professional here.

It has! I'm surprised I still remembered my password. How are things going around these parts? I sometimes remember to check in here on March 14 most years but it seems I was completely absent when the fan series of TUIT was released. Good stuff, there.

Things are going well, even in your absence. (We survive on slug imports from France.) Indeed a lot has been done over the years with little signs of anything slowing down anytime soon. (Though it's pretty slow as-is...) How goes Canada?

Since I don't have Mario Maker, I unfortunately cannot play the levels he made, but I watched a few videos of people playing the Keen Mario Maker level. One of them killed Spot (who was represented by a green koopa), and the other person had never heard of Commander Keen. kill me

It should be worth mentioning that the Game Grumps played one of Tom's levels! I remember Tom tweeting about it when it came out. (Keen shoutout at 8:23)

Also, is it now canon that Mortimer has a pet dog?

Until the great dream is achieved and Tom gets the IP to build new Keen games we can adopt Mortimer's dog into the canon, but that probably won't happen until 2050 and we colonize Mars and visit Alpha Centuri.

I've played Tom's levels and they're quite good, given Mario levels are actually very different to Keen levels he's done a rather good job in making Keen stages.

If anyone has SMM there are aren't many at all but there are a few genuine Keen stages made worth taking a look, mostly Keen 1 Border Town, but still good to try out.

[Edit] I've just updated my Capital City stage on Super Mario Maker. If you have the game check it out. ID: 75D2-0000-02A6-D58D

Well it was either that or Mortimutt and I'm not sure which I like better.
