Caves Of Deep (a small game I made!)

Post by KeenRush »

I had to do a small school project, and I came up with this idea. But as I was short on time (actually I was one day late as I was mentally at wrong day :dopekeen), and I liked the idea way too much to use it for a school project, I did something else for school, and worked with this idea in peace. And now it's done, so I figured I could just as well let Keeners try it out as otherwise I will never get any comments.

My aim was to create an old-skool looking and feeling game with oppressing atmosphere. I hope I have succeeded.

So, now, come and venture down into Caves Of Deep! :mortlol

How far did you get and what's your score? 8)

(Yes, I know the name most likely isn't correct English, but I like it the way it is.)

Cute!

You should probably mention that you can use the arrow keys to move instead of clicking on the arrows on the screen. I didn't know that you could until I peeked at the source.

Also 'Caves of Deep' - not 100% grammatical, but it is 'something good KeenRush name'. :D

I agree with CKGuy about the arrow key thing. But other than that, I actually found this game very addicting. :) Good job!

EDIT: I tried using the arrow keys and they didn't work. Honestly, it would be nice if they did...but it's still fun.

Thanks everyone. :goth Yeah, it can be surprisingly addictive! Anyways, the arrow keys should work, they worked in both Opera and Firefox when I tested, at least in the versions I have.

I got as far as level nine, where I got trapped right where I spawned! :O
I don't know how to take a screenshot like skyraugh did, so I tediously put each of the tiles together to recreate an exact representation of my map:

LEVEL: 9 | SCORE: 11480

Fun game. Very old school :dopekeen
PS: What are you supposed to be? An amoeba or what? :crazy

Heh. It needs more... there's pretty much no point to it, unless you get trapped.
Fun, though, for a few minutes, at least. 8)

Hah, classy. The quantum style map, changing whenever you move, is trippy.

Cheers! VikingBoyBilly, yes, I know that can happen, has happened to me as well, but I didn't want to change it. I wanted there to be possibility for the game to 'end' because of bad random (heh), so that one just can't get forward. It's supposed to be frustrating. :)

Also, the game won't get more content (unless I make COD2), I want it to be sparse and simple like this.

Edit: And to answer what the player is... I have no idea. :crazy

Well, I can only describe it as lonely. You certainly hit the feel of being lost in a confusing place where the boundaries keep changing and you're not even sure what you're trying to do. And it's interesting to hear that you deliberately made it so that the player can become unable to progress simply through chance. Nice work.

...Well, that took entirely too long.
