Gambling
Gambling
1st of all i do not believe in it not like i am a hard line christian. but according to the salvation army religion it is ok to participate in door prizes & it is ok to accept a lottery ticket from someone else not part of the church (a few years ago my uncle gave me a powerball ticket actually he gave anyone in my family that it was his xmas present to his sister, nephew & niece) also years ago i started up a topic saying that the lost keen trilogy the universe is toast was not ever going to be produced because of id's pursuit of more money & that they were not going to listen to the keen fans & produce tuit. levellord once tried to make me a bet of NZ$20 (A$16.77) incase it was made i said no to the bet because i strongly believe that gambling is a waste of time your opinion?
If you can't change the rules, challenge them, rules are made to be broken

I think I remember that topic.Rorie wrote:also years ago i started up a topic saying that the lost keen trilogy the universe is toast was not ever going to be produced because of id's pursuit of more money & that they were not going to listen to the keen fans & produce tuit.
But what's it got to do with gambling?
Is it that ID taking the risk to produce TUIT would be a big gamble for them to do with the expectations of today's audiences?
I only take a bet on something I'm 99% sure I'll win... and not pay any expense (small if any) in taking that bet... so that's pretty much not gambling on my part
There's nothing wrong with gambling in my opinion.
I go to casinos from time to time, not to make money but to have some fun.
Every once in a while i bring a 100 bucks and have some fun.
I either play poker or dice. I prefer playing dice more since the game tends to last longer. If i end up losing my money, oh well i had nearly a day of fun. If i win, hell there's dinner lol.
The only time i think gambling isn't a good idea is when someone gambles to make a living. Not many people are successful at it.

I don't care about it, I just don't like it. I don't see anything wrong with it if it's done just for fun, just like Blue mentioned. Here in Finland all kinds of gambling/money games are very popular, we have at least one machine in about every store and other public places where money changes hands. The profits are all going to our citizens who are in real need of money, so that's another good thing. (Only the government is allowed to run such games here, as far as I know, that's why the profits go to people.)

Gambling isn't wrong...
The fun is found in the thrill of taking a risk...
The risk, or gamble if you can forgive the pun, is getting addicted to this risk.
Gambling can become a real addiction, just like cigarettes and alcohol...
A little every once in a while is fine, but don't make it a habit, or you'll break yourself over every single little wager...

Re: Gambling
Well no where in the Bible does it say gambling is wrong. I think the key issue is why are you gambling? If there's greed behind it then of course it is wrong.Rorie wrote:1st of all i do not believe in it not like i am a hard line christian

Hmm... so do the penecostals (and they throw dancing into their no-no's)
I never thought much of the salvation army's religion, mostly because it's too modern... though I admire their work...
I guess it's back on you then... that is, if you follow that religion...
And don't get me wrong, follow your convictions. If you follow that religion, don't gamble then.

this page should explain itLava89 wrote:Rorie, what is the Salvation Army's religion?
And even then it depends on Pentecostals, some are more strict and some are more lenient (like me, at least with gambling, because it's not addressed in the Bible).najawa wrote:Hmm... so do the penecostals (and they throw dancing into their no-no's)

Ahh ok, well that seems to be a thing of the Salvation Army's code, not their religion per say (unless you actually went to the basic definition of religion then it could count), as it seems they follow rules based on people they might help (e.g. they stay away from gambling to avoid addiction, because they might be helping gambling addicted people), at least that's what I drew from that.
This is why I asked, because I always heard the Salvation Army was based on Christianity, so it seemed weird that they'd be so against gambling.
