Whack Whack (Here's Some Gold)

Post by Deltamatic »

Just for kicks, I made a game with that title.
It's a simulated-ASCII roguelike, programmed in Game Maker 7 Pro.
Ten levels, twenty-seven monsters, permadeath, and gold.

Hahaha. Nice. Dunno about using GameMaker for ASCII stuff, but if it gets the job done...

Good Lord! It reminds me of my early BASIC game, I spent months on it, it was a pseudo-3D ASCII game (The screens were drawn with ASCII characters.) involving moving North, South, etc and picking stuff up. I wish I still had it, it was a monumental waste of time.

Unfortunately, this game has practically no plot. (Though there's a shocking revelation at the end.)
As for download, I'm publishing the file right now... wish WS_FTP for Win95. It's taking its time.

EDIT: Here it is! http://www.ooranth.org/WhackWhack.exe

Sorry for the double-post, but since all people saw was the unedited version and now they don't see any new posts indicator on this thread so they assume quite reasonably that all is the same, but not I am directing their attention to this thread with the new posts indicator resulting from this post and also directing their attention once they have arrived at this post to the post above, and especially its edited portion.

Kind of fun... interesting descriptions of the enemies...

How the heck do you get your HP back in a level! :( Where is the "rest" button?
What do you use the gold for?

Oh and um...

Code: Select all

___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 1
of Alarm Event for alarm 4
for object X:

Error in expression:at.x
 position 4: Unknown variable x
I was trying to attack an "X" and this popped out. I think I died. I kept clicking "ignore" and eventually I was able to enter my name in twice into the "death list."
So you use one letter as your variable names... That's not really a good practice you know.

You get your HP back by visiting the next level.
I thought of adding a rest button, but realized that would end some tactically interesting situations that I'd built in involving the requirement for the player to move in some direction every turn.
Gold is your score, and it shows up on the high score table.
Eech, sorry 'bout that bug. It's fixed now, so you can delete the .exe and re-download it to get the new version.

Thanks.
It's actually one of a large genre of games.
