Coraline
Good movie or AWESOME movie?
I just got it on DVD. Brilliant, utterly brilliant! This is the kind of movie they should have had out when I was young. I especially love the other father character.

What you really need, not what you think you ought to want.
Never seen, never heard of... After doing a search, it seems I've seen a few pictures of it, but never anything more. I'm not going to see it -- I see only a few movies a year and those in cinemas.

I might just do that, but I have like 800 movies on my watchlist currently.Levellass wrote:Since you're all experienced Netizens I am sure you can download it in a wink.
Well, closer to 8, but still... EIGHT MOVIES.
So everyone's been saying either "it's an awesome movie" or "I don't know it", but no one really explained what it's about? As an experienced Netizen I can look it up myself, I guess.
Wow look at me I'm lurking
Girl. Moves to strange old house. Doesn't like life much. Finds magical door to perfect world where everyone has buttons for eyes. Enjoys magic world immensely. Awesome world is actually nightmare world. Girl fights to escape, then must go back to rescue parents. Does so. Locks evil nightmare thing behind magic door and throws key down well. Happy end.
Well thank goodness you weren't watching Finding Nemo.Almost named my daughter Coraline.

Hiring a Japanese art director was the biggest mistake made in this movie.
The art director basically took something that was supposed to be dark and gothic, and soiled it with the anime-treatment.
One example of this, is that originally, whenever Coraline started going outside the world, it would start melting like a painting... The Japanese guy thought this was too old fashioned, so he completely did away with the whole hand-painted style and made it "more like The Matrix".
The book illustrations depict a creepy looking girl with black hair...
In the movie, they made her vibrant, with anime-blue hair, and big old stupid eyes, voiced by none other than Dakota Fanning.
It would have been perfect film had Tim Burton been in charge of the art direction, in all of his cliche, striped-clothing, pale-faced dark-eyed crazy-haired goodness.
I have high hopes for the new Frankenweenie movie!
