Your top 5 favourite songs and bands
Your top 5 favourite songs and bands
OK this question kept me thinking quite a while ago and I already bugged Mink on IRC with it, thinking it was CKGuy.
The basic idea here is: Sit down and think of five songs and five bands that you would consider your favourites now.
RULES:
I don't want to see any of those wishy washy answers, where someone writes: 'well it depends on the situation', or 'I can't name three definitive ones' or even 'that changes from time to time'. We all know that.
Also no things like: 'I like Metal'. I want to hear names of actual bands, something I can look up on youtube if I'm intrigued.
Just think of three at the moment you're posting, if you're unhappy with your decision you can edit your post.
If everybody sticks these rules, this could be quite interesting I think.
My entries for now are (in random order):
Songs:
'She's Not There' by the Zombies
'Summer Romance (Anti-gravity Love Song)' by Incubus
'Stardust' by Hoagy Carmichael
'Amen Brother' by the Winstons
'Kick out the Jams' by MC5
Bands/Artists:
Eric Burdon & the Animals
Taj Mahal
Vince Guaraldi
At the Drive-In
The Stooges
I realize it's hard to limit oneself to 5, especially for the bands, but I decided to stick with those.

Well, I don't have any particular bands I can call favorites and bla bla bla...
Just kidding. I'll put these as my top 5 bands:
1. Pink Floyd
2. Led Zeppelin
3. The Who
4. The Grateful Dead
5. Nightwish
And my favorite songs would I guess be
1. Echoes (Pink Floyd) - go on YouTube, look up "floyd odyssey", and have 20 minutes or so to spare...
2. Had Enough (The Who)
3. The Wind (Cat Stevens)
4. Ghost Love Score (Nightwish)
5. The Internationale
Note: I would probably have put Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon as my second, but as it's a music album rather than a single song I'd just give it an honorable mention instead.

Re:
Wow, that's pretty hard. I honestly can't narrow it down to 5 (songs or bands).
Good choices though, everybody.

I'm barely starting to expand my musical horizons starting from practically nil. I grew up in a Christian household where the only music was Christian music which was okay but it got repeated enough times for me to lose interest. And now both hymns and ccpop are unappealing to me due to a) their endless repetition and b) conversion to atheism makes them sound rather hollow. Some of them are kind of creative, like Randy Stonehill and KevinMax, although the latter didn't make songs identifiable as Christian most of the time, like Owl City which is the only band I can definitely say I like right now. I've started extending feelers via Grooveshark into different kinds of music, but working on a computer with family members either sitting nearby or walking by every few minutes doesn't help since the parental powers that be wouldn't approve of lots of secular lyrics.
But anyway, I also like the Lord of the Rings soundtracks.

From the sound of it you're not really interested in more Christian music, but if you're having a difficult time looking for new bands/songs due to parental restrictions, these are some of my personal favorite Christian bands and songs:

Re:
I saw Morse live with my dad a while back. Pretty good show.
Ok my first comment: Joe Jackson - I'm the Man - made of pure win, didn't know and it's rockin', I like the whole album. Thanks DHeadshot
Also of Mr.M's choices I found the song THE WALKING WOUNDED by Bayside cool.
Also that particular Abney Park song somehow got me hooked.
There are other good ones too, which I mostly already knew, I've always liked Ash, and the first Album by Muse was a masterpiece.
