the Music topic

Post by Scarlet »

So I figured that it would be neat to have a topic only for music.

Not too long ago Arcade Fire came out with a new CD...
...does anyone like it? It went to no.1 on the charts on many charts. :)

Here are a few songs that I liked from it...

I don't recognise any of these titles... Is that last one by Bach?

I love The Smashing Pumpkins.
So much, I named my daughter after the album "Adore". :)
(Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was just too long of a name ;P )

I also like Nine Inch Nails... Used to way too much, and have a permanent [NIN] tattoo on my right bicep.

Other than that, I like...
Tool, Soundgarden, Eels, Radiohead, Rammstein, Neutral Milk Hotel, Nirvana, a little Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Megadeth, Skinny Puppy, REGINA SPEKTOR! <3<3<3, The White Stripes, The Beatles, Ween, Depeche Mode, The Cranberries, CAKE, Black Sabbath, and uhh... sadly, some Coldplay. :(
Oh yeah, and Failure.

I absolutely HATE emo bands, and gay hipster garg.

Also, Mortimer, Bach kicks ass! My favorite is Prelude 11 in F Minor from The Well Tempered Clavier, Book II.

I love writing and composing my own music. I am a very experienced producer, composer, songwriter, and I can play any instrument I lay my hands on... but I usually keep my music pretty secret from the world, so I'm not sure if people even like it. (Not that I care or anything)

On a side-note, this thread belongs in "The Theater" sub-forum, not MISC.

If I were a moderator, I would move it. :)

If I were a mod I'd combine this with a few other music topics. :) (and I'd crack down on double posters, but telling people to edit their old posts)

So, do you think that this new Arcade Fire CD will top all the CDs that any of those other bands there made? It tops Ok Computer imo.

No. I think that Arcade Fire is an OKAY Indie-Band.
I really liked their song "Wake Up" from the Where The Wild Things Are movie, and I have their discography, but honestly, they're not more musically capable than Billy Corgan or Radiohead, regardless of the number of CD's they sell.

Also, I didn't think double-posting was frowned upon in these parts.
It's not that big of a community, so one extra post every now in then isn't really a big deal. It's not like I'm spamming 5+ messages in a row in every thread, and I'm fully familiar with the EDIT button. It has probably saved my life on numerous occasions.

True, I didn't think that they were too good or bad for how long I've known of them...

...but what about the CD itself,eh?

I played a simplified version of that once... a couple of years ago.

You're obsessed. Also, you're going to regret the daughter thing when she's older. (Also, I thought you said you were 20? Wouldn't have expected many 20 year olds have kids...)

Not quite as focused as their Funeral album, but I'm really digging the song "Sprawl II".

Yay, discussing music! Although my friends usually don't like discussing music with me because I mostly end up bashing any taste but mine. :0

I listen almost exclusively to obscure 60s/70s music nowadays, probably the bigger part of you haven't even heard of. Does anyone here know, let alone like Mystic Tide or the Fugs?
I caused som funny confusion with Grant Green on IRC some time ago, but noone seemed to be interested in him either. Anyone for Soul Jazz?

Arcade Fire is okay, I liked Month of May most, but I expect it to be the least typical song for the band.

Also I moved this to the Theater.

I've heard CIA Man by The Fugs, but that's only because it was on the soundtrack to Burn After Reading... Mystic Tide is way too far out there, though... And yeah, very... very.. obscure.

I don't know how a German man such as yourself gets into such crazy shtuff. :p
