Muscial live performances / gigs

Post by KeenRush »

Well, I'm not the type that usually goes to see bands live, but today I'll be going to see Covenant to some club. They'll be first time in Finland -- they've been probably everywhere but here so far. :D It's this band: http://www.covenant.se/ I'm eagerly waiting. :mortlol :wormouth :eek

Has anyone else here been anywhere lately, or going to be soon? :confused

None coming up, unfortunately. In the past year I've seen Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, Jethro Tull, and The Mars Volta (in chronological order!).

I'm checking out that band website. I think someone has too much flash on their hands. I'm listening to the sample tracks now. Not the kind of music I like, generally, but it's oddly compelling.

(I think I just heard him say 'and now for a word on nutrition' ... )

Edit: What are techno performances like, anyway? One guy singing and another four sitting at synthesizers? 'Cause that would be kind of amazing in a weird way.

Edit again: ":mortlol :wormouth :eek" Yet another demonstration of KR's emotikeen skills. I pretty much only ever use :p and :) and ;) and occasionally :furious or :( or :dopekeen

I want to see bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Kiss on some summer festivals. I haven't got the money yet to afford my tickets.

I went to see Jethro Tull some time ago, they were very good. I'm going to see them again this year.

Jethro Tull went downhill the moment Tony Iommi left them.

When I saw them, Ian Anderson referred to Bourre as 'porno jazz'. I lolled.

Let's see. This year I've been to:

Big Day Out (Melbourne) Absolute madness. I had planned to spend a lot of time in the Boiler Room, but ended up getting distracted by various metallic bands. RATM was definitely the highlight. The front (not even the mosh pit) was one hell of a place to be, I had to escape a crowd crush a few seconds into the first song. Too hardcore for me! :old

Nightwish in St. Kilda two nights later. Alas, they didn't play Over The Hills, which I was quite looking forward to, but it was still a very enjoyable show.

On Friday I was at the Soundwave Festival in Melbourne. A bit too much generic emo music, and a couple of times there was nothing playing that I really wanted to hear. But that gave me some time to rest. One thing that pissed me off--Fall of Troy were meant to be on second at one of the stages, but they swapped places with the first band. I got to the stage after having lunch and caught the tail end of their final song, thinking, Fall of Troy doesn't sound half bad! Then ten minutes later some garg band rocks up and I'm like, this must be Fall of Troy--they suck, dammit!

But, it was worth the low points just to catch Killswitch Engage at the end. They know how to put on a show! As to Mindless Self-Indulgence, who I'd not heard of before but shall soon be in my playlist somewhere.

At the end of March I'll be seeing HIM in Melbourne with my brother and sister. I also caught them in 2006 when they were here last. One of our collective favourite bands, it seems.

A flier that was handed to me at Soundwave announced that Sum 41 will be in Melbourne in the middle of April, so it's possible I will attend that as well. They were here late last year, but I didn't find out until afterwards.

I'd really like to catch Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin, but neither of them are going to be leaving their cosy little states any time soon, so I'll have to travel to the US to see them. There are a lot of Euro and EBM bands I plan to see as well, but it's going to be a Eurotrip for those. Though I found out a few weeks ago to that Assemblage 23 was in Melbourne near the end of December. Hopefully he'll return sometime. It would make my year (moreso) to catch Wednesday 13 and Manowar somewhere.

I will hopefully also be attending some good rave parties sometime down the track, too. Turns out cTrix, who organised the demoscene Beach Party I attended last weekend, is involved in operating such events on occasion.

Anyway, that's my very satisfying year so far.
I'm not the type that usually goes to see bands live, but today I'll be going to see Covenant to some club.
Sweet! Enjoy it for me!

Man, was it a sweet evening! :love Covenant was just great, if you people can you really ought to hear them live. These guys did just crazy soundscapes there. Totally worth my trip and its tireing not-going-as-ideally-planned-in-mind back-home part with waiting for transportation in cold with 'light' clothes (because I knew it'd be warm at the club) without hat... :disguised The gig ended around 1:30, I got home around 7:30.

I hope to see Assemblage 23 at some point, too bad you didn't notice in time he was there, Spleen...

I'm not much interested in all those summer festivals, they'd be too tiring for me, physically. Few hours was enough for me.
