But I think you didn't catch the first, and most obvious influence when you start listening to the album: It sounds like friggin Queen.

[Edit:]Oh man they're stealing way more than I deemed possible for one band, I'm hearing all the stuff you mentioned plus things like Muse (Impossible), early Tool (Love at the Rock Show) and a bunch of others I can't really place right now.

While it all doesn't sound too bad, my main gripe is that nothing on this album sounds original, and not even homogenous, all too eclectic. Plus I hate that modern music is always so hyper-produced that it doesn't even sound organic or rough anymore.

Okay a few albums. With some commentary about each for once, and not just bare album names.

Zach Hill & Mick Barr - Shred Earthship (2006)

This is probably the most 'holy crap is this music even' album that I have ever bought. I'm not sure that it is music. (Read: I am pretty sure that it is not.) On the off chance that it is music, I am pretty sure it is amazing and I am being enriched in some weird way for each minute that I can stand to listen to. 'What were the people thinking who did _________?' where __________ is any action that is a step required to get it into my ears is a very valid question. The summary of this album is: Ridiculous formless guitar shredding played over ridiculous drumming. For 77 minutes. I don't even know what else to say about this album.

Triclops! - Helpers on the Other Side (2010)

Okay this is an actual album. Something I read online bills this band as 'Progressive rock, punk'. This is a good description. Some nice progressive rocking, with a vocal acrobat singing and screaming on the top. The lyrics are awesome, and there is a nice use of effects on the vocals in some songs. The final track is a song narrated by a virus waiting for its opportunity to spread through the world, doing what its hero, SARS, had the chance to do but failed. And a song about war with lines like 'we are 18 and we shoot at the 12-year-olds who can't read the propaganda they hear'. Anyway this is an all-around awesome album, and one of the best albums I've heard lately.

Dustin Wong - Infinite Love (2010)

This is an intriguing, well-titled album. All-instrumental, all created by textures of guitar loops, with a little bit of drum machine here and there. What is probably most unique about this album is that it is actually two 40-minute albums, the first half of which and the last few minutes of which are the same. The two albums, called 'Brother' and 'Sister', are seen by the artist as twins who go out and live their separate days, and then return home.

Yes three albums in 2004. He also had another album under his name, another album not under his name but which starred him pretty heavily, and an EP in 2004 (and an album released in early 2005).

All in all John Frusciante is definitely in the running for my Favorite Human Being Of All Time award.

Hell yeah, Booker T. Saw a vid where they played at some garg pop thingy like MTV awards or something like that a while ago. Totally out-grooved the whole event. Way cooler than all the new pop stars together.

We used to play stuff by them in a jazz band I was in at school - great, great band. Sad to hear of Duck's death.

Green Onions is overplayed (in comparison to their other stuff), but deservedly so. Just wish we'd hear a greater variety of their music!
