Just move a few kilometres, I guarantee you'll find the exact opposite world.
I had the luck to spawn in a taiga - a beautiful snowy biome with lots of dark trees. I saw five wolves already, but I can't tame them. I hate playing with aggresive mobs. Looks like I'll have to invedit the bones.

Has anyone seen any slimes yet?

Oh, yeah, I've seen lotsa slimes.
Someone (actually, it was probably me) in this server I'm in dug a shaft down to bedrock and made a small cave there, and it seems to be a good slime spawning place; last time I went down there, there were tons.
Aside from that, I've seen several several other slimes, too.
Right now, I'm hunting around for wolves...

In Beta 1.3 and 1.4, slimes are pretty common again and spawn near bedrock. In multiplayer, they're fucl glitchy - killing a small slime can cause 4 huge slimes to spawn etc.

Actually, nearly all of the slimes in multiplayer I've seen so far are invincible! And not to mention the "ghost slime" bug. But hopefully most of these problems are fized in the latest version. I know the "ghost slime" one was supposedly.

I fucling hate the slime. I play multiplayer with my friends and we each have our own mines, somewhat in the same area but far enough away that we haven't connected them to each other yet...they've never seen slime and mine is absolutely overrun with glitchy slimes such that i can't go anywhere without the spishy squish noise of them hopping around. I frequently pass lava pits with like 15 of them just whacking off and not dying.

Multiplayer slimes are pretty awful.

1.3 has ruined the slimes completely - they are common near bedrock, they are invincible/spawn big ones in multiplayer, they spawn in light areas and stuff. But what's REALLY irritating me is the fact that they even spawn on peaceful now.

By the way, wolves aren't that uncommon, but they only spawn in forest and taiga biomes.

They spawn in my house - I've had about 20 appear there! Does anyone know how to order them to attack something?
Attack something, or be attacked. They'll act on it.

Haven't encountered slimes myself yet, but on my server a friend encountered an invincible small slime and an actually beatable slime shortly afterwards. I was looking at him whack absolutely nothing.

Yeah, I managed to kill some slimes, too, but not too many of them aren't invincible for me (hopefully the invisible ones are fixed now). Now what to do with the slime balls. :P

Finally found some wolves. Now I have 5 of them protecting my house. Remember that you have to tame them before you can order them around. It's quite fun having a pack of them following you all over the place. Just give a cow a playful slap on the side and... cow is dead meat. But never ever ever attack someone else's dog on a multiplayer server. ;)
