Gravis Ultrasound Drivers for DOSBox

Post by _mr_m_ »

EDIT: I'm not sure whether this should go in 'The Classics' section...If so, could you move this KeenRush?

I thought I would share this file I found while searching around the internet.

It's the Gravis Ultrasound (GUS) drivers that came with the old GUS sound card.

This means you can play all those old classic games that used GUS for music!

There are two folders in the archive. Just extract the contents of either the ULTRASND411 or ULTRASNDPPL161 directories to C:\Ultrasnd (Or wherever you configured DOSBox to read GUS drivers from)

ULTRASND411 is the ORIGINAL GUS with un-edited instruments

ULTRASNDPPL161 is a MODIFIED GUS with "better" instruments. (This is the one I am currently using)

This sounds much better than standard MIDI music, IMO.

If you need help getting this to work, feel free to PM me or ask me on the IRC channel.

This is sweet. I was actually about to go looking for Ultrasound drivers but you've saved me the trouble. Thanks!

And yeah, I'd say it belongs in Classics so... *poof!* :lindsey
