Everyone was like holy fucl! MYST!

Oh yeah, it's not 1993 anymore. Some of you weren't even alive in 1993.
I never understood MYST. It was just weird...
Most puzzle games are not too bad. Like monkey island. Or Kings Quest.
But myst's just lame compared to those.

Howabout...

...phantasmagoria?!

Now that is a really creepy game. It came out in 1995 er so, and had like 6 CDs.
Spoony did a full playthrough of Phantasmagoria 2, if you're interested.
Man was that game weird... and it had lots of sex (which he had to cut).
http://spoonyexperiment.com/category/phantasmagoria/
One can find full playthroughs of almost anything on youtube. ;)
I never bothered to look at phantasmagoria two... but from what I know, it is not even related to phantasmagoria one.
So yay, they did not ruin the first one by making the second one.

But anyways, the phantas 1 was ground breaking I think... so many CDs and in 3-D unlike anything like that in 1995.

Myst was absolutely gorgeous but it was fucling impossible to solve without any guides. I still haven't beaten it, because I feel the ridiculously overthought puzzle element is the whole point, and if you read up on it beforehand, you're cheating yourself out of the intended experience and the satisfaction of a brain-surged epiphamy when you've made something happen.

Of course, I don't think anybody's beaten it without any outside help :foot
And how about the sequel riven? :dopefish
I enjoyed the prequels Spelunx and Cosmic Osmo much better. They made it into a big soft-spot in my childhood for some reason.

Aye, and nanosaur 8) Mac gaming seems like a rare jargon subject on a board dedicated to a DOS pioneer :dead2

I'm wondering, was there ever a game for PS1 called "Kingsleys quest", or am I just imagining it, the internet seems to indicate that my CD collection is lying.

It might be a fan-translated game, which would explain why the name turns up nothing.

They have an interesting topic on obscure 3D games (shooters, mostly) over at Doomworld.

As Scarlet said, there was Kings Quest for the PC. Maybe that's it?

No, you played a small fox with a sword. I kept dying in the pirate base level with all the big boulders rolling around it. I've heard the odd mention of it, but not much. This is the only other webpage that mentions it: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/archive ... 16574.html

Possibly I have the spelling wrong.

Somehow I can't help but mention this game:

The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time

If you can get the DVD version of it, it's worth a play.

The puzzle's seemed to be a bit too easy, considering I beat the game when I was 10...but then again it also took me a while to do so

DISCLAIMER: NONE OF THE BELOW ARE 3D.

no-one's mentioned Carmen SanDiego yet? I know it was hardly revolutionary but it was very popular - popular with kids so we learned something back in the day :P

Does anyone here (or Australian origin either now or at the time) remember the 2001 Census game? We still have our CD of it :P It's fun! Or was... may have outgrown it now. Might give it a play in the next week (Y) I shall report back. But that was pretty revolutionary in use of flash.

I'm still really good at that game. I just get bored with it because it gets too repetitive and the same clues keep cycling over.

Give that game to a kid today, and they'd fail epically at it. But then again, the American public school system isn't what it used to be.
