Lemmings and Lemmings 2: The Tribes are fantastic. Oh No! More Lemmings and Lemmings 3d are alright. Lemmings 3: Chronicles (a.k.a. A Whole New World of Lemmings) is mediocre and frustrating. Lemmings Paintball and Lemmings Revolutions are sub-par. I've never played either of the Christmas Lemmings.

When I think of Lemmings, the first thing that comes to mind is the final level for the Sports Tribe in L2... That's the hardest level in the game, IMKO.

Haven't played it much on my own, but used to play through one of them with my cousin. The concept is impressive, and such, the levels being so big and 'customizable'.

The idea of the game is great, but it's often very little about strategy - more about being quick with the mouse.

Lemmings 3D is my fav in the series, but I also like the original ones(ie: the true original, Oh No, Holiday Lemmings) a lot, and Lemmings Revolution is pretty good too. The Tribes... it's not too bad. Didn't like Chronicles though.

There *is* a 'pause' key, you know... :) Makes life tons easier.

I would assume in the console versions you can press Start to pause... in the DOS version of the original, F11, in the Windows version as well as sequels (L2, L3D, etc), press P to pause.

Yep, but you can't give commands with pause on.

However, you can certainly use the F3-F10 tools to select which skill you'd like to use, hover the mouse over the Lemming in question, press F11 to unpause, jam the mouse button, and press F11 again, and have all the time in the world to make future decisions. :)

Psygnosis made this style of gameplay more difficult in Lemmings 2, as selecting a skill unpauses the game.

I hated how in the computer game you needed a 'password' to play it, which came from certain text in different parts of the instruction booklet. Same with Prince of Persia's potion drinking levels.

At least yours had a password--those sort of things can be looked up online, in times of need...

My copy booted me back to DOS and asked me to insert Disk 1. That's hardcore--once the disk goes bad, there's no way to recover.
