Downloading it right now. From all I know it's short and the graphics (as expected) aren't that great. But I don't care about the graphics! So...

From what I've seen, it looks like modern FPS games made for 10t54 c45h. Sorry, Gearbox, I'm not gonna eat this. I'll rather wait a few months for the Duke Nukem 3D remake using UE3.

This is an outrage

Post by Paramultart »

EDIT: This post has been revised with red lettering for no apparent reason other than to emphasize key words that will give you a poor impression of the game.

Bottom line:

Gearbox has CENSORED the game. There is hardly any blood in the game now at all.
They also wiped their forums free of ALL criticism of the demo.
Everything is pre-scripted
No true interactivity
Frustrating level restrictions. You can't even jump on top of common level areas, such as in hot tubs, on pool tables, toilets, sinks, etc.
2-Weapon limit = Lame
Linear and poorly designed levels
Not enough destructible environments.
Terrible enemy AI
Embarrassingly bad "humor"
Annoying cut-scenes that you cannot skip
DUKE IS SO FUCLING SLOW! WTF?
Say goodbye to speed-runs.

This is no exaggeration. The game is horrible, and a lot of people are pointing fingers at Gearbox for the modernization of what, if you examine old videos and information on the game, would have been a classic shooter with modern graphics.

I've had 50 of my posts deleted on the Gearbox forums due to them censoring my perfectly justified opinion of the game.

Here was my initial reaction immediately after playing the demo:
http://paramultart.wordpress.com/2011/0 ... ever-demo/

This is someone else's post, and is definitely worth a read. It's regarding the censorship of both the game and the forums: http://forums.duke4.net/topic/4078-comm ... bx-forums/

Fucl those Gearbox nazis. They lied to us. They promised to deliver the game 3DREALMS made, and they LIED. They are greedy insincere bastards.

Duh. I don't get it. What was the 3DREALMS game that they promised to deliver to us? I thought it is the 3DREALMS game, just finished by Gearbox. If anything isn't exactly what you are expecting, than 3DREALMS are the ones you want to blame.

Anyway, I liked what I've saw so far. It is exactly what was shown on previous shows. It is exactly what was in the trailers. Most of your expectations are way beyond realism.

I KNEW IT LOLOLOL
If Para is right (and I bet he is), then this so-called DNF = retextured call of duty, which is horrible and disgusting. Seriously, Pitchford, you have failed epicly.

Is it really unrealistic to expect the same kind of level interactivity that we had IN THE EARLY 1990S IN DOS!?

^^^ This x9001

That is EXACTLY what I said on the Gearbox forums.

I didn't want Duke3D clone. I wanted a proper sequel, which should be a STEP UP in terms of fun, not a step down.
The technology is available for an infinitely MORE interactive and dynamic game than Duke3D, yet they decided to focus more on cinematics and attitude rather than make an actual good game.

And ironically enough, they DID copy Duke3D in nearly every way.

If you think about it, DN1, 2, and 3 were entirely different from each other in terms of enemies and environments. Duke Nukem Forever has most of the same enemies, weapons, and very similar themes... Minus the fun game play.

And yes, Nospike. It is exactly like CoD and all of those games.
A lot of people are comparing it to Halo, because rather than health and armor, Duke has an "Ego Meter" that regenerates EXACTLY like the Halo shield.

"Power armor is for pussies"... So ironic.

This is only partially true. Obviously, you haven't done your research.
The game resembles the trailer and leaked footage, but there are notable differences.

In the Jace Hall show, we are able to see blood particles and decals spewing everywhere as they dismember a pig cop limb by limb. These effects are not present in the demo, and it has been toned down, or "censored". Another HUGE difference is that in the Jace Hall clips, he is seen cycling through weapons in a weapons wheel on the HUD, containing all weapon slots of all the weapons. This is not present in the final game today.

It is speculated that the version Jace Hall played was closer to what 3DRealms had in mind, if not 3DRealms' genuine build of the game itself.

Randy Pitchfart kept all the humor and general idea of the game in tact, but he is solely responsible for modernizing Duke. Slowing his speed down to be more "realistic", adding a 2 weapon limit, and cloning Halo's armor system under the guise of "ego".

Fucl Gearbox. They may have acted like they wanted to stay true to the game, but they have deliberately destroyed everything that made Duke better than all of the other shooters from the inside out.
