Favorite non-Apogee games that run on a 286
Favorite non-Apogee games that run on a 286
I found a fantastic dos emulator for ds a few months back, but have sadly discovered that it lacks the memory to play many of my childhood favorites.
So I thought I'd ask, for those of you who remember the days when even Commander Keen was slow to load, what were your favorite non-Apogee games?
I'm deliberately excluding Apogee, because if I don't, those are the only answers I'll get.

Here, I uploaded a bunch of my old favorites (well, they were the only games I had besides Keen, so I didn't have much of a choice .

As mentioned, Stargoose, but I never got past level 2 in that.
Many of the old games I used to play as a small child were CGA, and I forget most of them, but to list a few,
Big Top
LHX Attack Copter (proving that EA Games was always on the cutting edge of technology)
Joust - Can't believe no one has mentioned this. A classic.
SCORCHED EARTH - the mother of ALL games.
ZZT - of course
4D Boxing - I don't know if this would run on a 286, but the graphics can be turned down real low and can use EGA and PC speaker if memory is too high.
In Search of the Most Amazing Thing - there's a working copy out there now, you'll probably lose interest though.
Lord of the Rings Volume 1 and 2. You need the manuals for them to play through appropriately, but you can get the gist of things without it. I have copies of both manuals if anyone is interested, I guess I could scan them. Would take ages. Again, I don't know if it would play on a 286, it might be 32 bit.
Freespace - Got to love freespace
Maniac Mansion - I think this runs on a 286
Hoosier City? Anyone?
Probably many others, but that's all I got off the top of my head ATM. I guess the DOS version of Castle of the Winds, if you can find a copy.
Edit:
CHOPPER COMMANDO (AKA Death Squad 2)
Can't believe I forgot this.
Also, perhaps Stellar 7.
Laser Light?
