I more or less had the same initial feeling. I first learned about it as I was preparing to pick up Civilization V, I didn't like the idea of getting a program and service than I originally thought I'd never use and it seemed completely wrong to get the majority of the data on the internet because that's what the disc should be for, especially with our net cap. I eventually gave in when the Age of Wonders Trilogy became available and now I advocate Steam and buy a game when one catches my eye, most recently Age of Wonders III. As far as I'm concerned it's the iTunes of gaming and it won't go away anytime soon with today's gaming climate and the rise of multiplayer gameplay.

My username on Steam is the same as on here. *points to my username*

Initially, I loved steam. But for me, now it's the opposite for many reasons:

1. If I don't check regularly their website (2-3 weeks), I need to re-enter my password, and then they send me an email that I need to open and copy-paste it every fucl time. I hate this. I understand if I wasn't using it for a year, but after a few weeks is ridiculous.

2. Every time I run a game, it tries to connect, updates and downloads something and then fails. I need to run the game again! What a stupid garg.

3. Once I didn't have internet and I wasn't even been able to play steam games offline!

4. After quitting a game, every fucl time ads are popping out and needs to be closed too. This is so annoying...

5. Uninstalling a game, managing it, or searching for something within steam is often pain in the ass, especially since steam is not my daily routine. How could few logically connected things to be in a completely different menus each? Often is taking too long to find something. Sometimes I use google to tell me where something is located in their menus...

6. There are a few garg games that I've uninstalled, but I can't remove from my game list. I want to remove them and never remember they even exist, but steam doesn't allow me that.

I think you are a little behind the times wiivn...

1. Is simply a security thing. Steam seems to be targeted the most by scammers which is why we unfortunately have to have such restrictive security procedures.

2. Sounds like you are unlucky.

3. There is Steam Offline mode that will work offline for a month before it makes you login again. You just have to make sure you choose the option.

4. Steam -> Settings -> Interface then uncheck the box at the bottom which is about those ads.

5. Searching games is just fine? You can use the search bar on the top left and choose between software, games and installed stuff as well, not sure what your problem is. Uninstalling is quite easy too, are you not meeting Steam's system requirements?

6. Right click the game you don't want, choose "Set Categories" then "Hide this game in my library".

Just tried You Have To Win The Game yesterday. Amazing stuff. The only little downside is that it's way too smooth! Where's my 16 FPS?
(Although the gameplay may be too fast paced for that...)

Just a quick question about Steam, when you download and purchase a game from Steam, do they have to be played online only, or can you play them on your machine when you don't have Internet access?

Yep, there's offline mode which does exactly that.

Just be aware that most Steamworks features are not available when run in Offline Mode. Steam Achievements unlocked won't be saved, no friends list and you have to download your games before putting it into offline mode.

Also some games on steam don't use the Steam DRM, Like Doom and Commander Keen.
if you can launch the games .exe, without an error, telling you to launch the game trough steam. then steam is not needed to play it.

Some use a Third party DRM like Ubisoft games, in addition to steam's DRM.
where you need to Log onto Uplay, regardless if you online on steam or not.
Which is rather terrible.

and Steam's DRM. just requires that you ware online while the game was downloading and have gone trough pre-launch

But compared to many DRM systems, Steams DRM is not really DRM in comparison.
