Raptor: A video review

Post by Flaose »

Hey all.

For a couple of years I've been kicking around the idea of a YouTube show where I talk about and review older games. GOG.com (one of my favorite sites these days) started a contest that basically gives them free advertising (and also gets people sharing their classic gaming stories). I used it as a kick in the butt to actually try out the review concept and made a short blurb about Raptor: Call of the Shadows. I'm interested in your opinions, so please,

Woah! Our copy never even mentioned MKS!

And didn't the original shareware version only have Bravo Sector? We always got ads when we tried the other regions.

.... AH, that'd be the GOG version.

I don't remember there being lasers in the shareware version either.

Really nice run-through though! And nice to actually see you, too!

Splendid video! Really top-notch! Perfect description of this game! I've never played this game, but we had Tyrian so..yeah. Thanks for sharing this! I'm gonna have to pick this game up!
(Oh, it's Flaose. I was always pronouncing it "Flouse".)

Glad you guys liked it! Yeah, Cygnus changed their name to Mountain King some time ago, so that's what shows up in the newest version of the game.

I realized a few years after creating my name that I pronounced it "wrong", but by then I wasn't about to change how I said it. :) Of course that doesn't change the fact that everyone else pronounces it how it's spelt.

This game, I wanted this game so much, we had it at school.

But I could never remember the name. Now I know.

To heck with the video, I have some ordering to do!

Shareware DOS version is free, unless you're looking for some authentic boxed version or the full version.

I severely frown upon piracy >: Especially when game only costs $6.

While working on the video I found that the DOS version didn't play well at all with DOSBox, running at only a few frames per second, but if you've got an easily accessible computer that runs true DOS then by all means pick up the shareware here: ftp://ftp.3drealms.com/share/1rap12.zip

If you want to limit yourself, yes.

Try 'SET S_HOST=CASTLE' at the DOS prompt before running.

Also, battle cows. That is all.
