Extracting CMFs, modules, etc.

Post by A Kick in the Pants »

I don't know if anyone's already extracted these CMFs/music files, but anyway...

I extracted all the CMFs from In Search of Dr. Riptide, and the shareware version of World Quest (I can upload the CMFs if anyone wants me to). I also attempted to extract the XMs from Terroid full version...I think I extracted them properly.

Now, how do I extract the CMFs from Highway Hunter? I can't get them out of the data file properly; they come out royally messed-up.

Galactix: I can extract the music files (they're MIDI), but I can't extract the FM instruments that are needed for playing the music.

Music file rips

In Search of Dr. Riptide Registered (CMF):
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?qyk995jewmjq9hj

I like the game, and the music, too.

World Quest Shareware 2.0b (CMF):
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?doksx373ievx1yh

Some weird music in that game...pretty bassy.

Terroid full version (XM):
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?w8loc0clb4wd9e1

The game isn't bad, and the music is quite nice.

I managed to extract CMFs from the Shareware version of Highway Hunter, yet I can't extract them properly from the Registered version. :confused

How are they stored, that you know of? Compressed? In a data file?

Shareware Highway Hunter uses a "1.DAT" file, and Registered Highway Hunter uses a "123.DAT" file.

Ok, so any idea on how they're stored in that .DAT file? Again, compressed, as-is? Is there a format out there somewhere?

I think they're compressed in the data file...when I extract the CMFs, the CMFs have random other game data "scrambled" throughout parts of the files.

Righty right. Do you have a copy of that data file? Might be worth taking a poke about. (I'm currently poking around the very shoddy Toxic Bunny formats.)

Here's a link to the full version, which I think is freeware:

It doesn't like my ad blocker, is there a dropbox of it somewhere?

None that I know of. It's floating around some other sites like this:
http://www.myabandonware.com/game/highway-hunter-29d

Not sure where else it's available.
