While there aren't a lot of news to see in practice at the moment:

Hopefully it's not just a worked-on-it-once-type recreational project!

The way I understand this is he's making a similar spider creature in his game Ravenwood.

Guess a few more details are deserved.

Basically, Romero has said that he's working on a remake of the original Dangerous Dave game for mobile. An image of him shows comparable screenshots from the DOS (VGA graphics) and Apple II releases side-by-side, which is probably a good hint. What eventually happens remains a question for now.

That's cool! Given that Dave has only one jump height, it might actually work. Hopefully will be on Android as well.

Back to the DDave port again, just an update on the topic:

I saw that crop up and signed up too. Looking forward to testing it.

At least it hasn't been restricted to just one platform, it's amazing how many developers still do that.

Fantastic! I feel so pretentious in thinking "Man, I wish I could help him with some of that pixel art", but I trust that he knows what he's doing.

I'm sure the final product will be faithful to whatever vision or legacy he's trying to fulfill. :)

I signed up for testing as well.

Finally, some kind of input can be observed...

Soo there are left and right buttons, but what about jumping? Or are these jump and move buttons at the same time?

Interestingly making a 8-months bump now (or at least, more or less)...

I guess we'll know for sure when there's feedback. According to Romero the new port is expected to be released soon: https://twitter.com/romero/status/544706922910191619

He's also been having a website with a few products available for sale, one of them seems to be related to Dangerous Dave. Maybe someone is going to be interested in a product available from that place. Link to site: http://romerogames.bigcartel.com/

Surprised that you didn't post this screenshot, also from his Twitter feed:

EDIT: On a wild tangent also related to Romero and his Twitter feed, he recently appeared in a sexy game dev calendar (scroll down for the picture):

Discuss.

Wow! That's awesome! I don't like the look of the main character, but everything else looks too good to be true :p . I thought he would just port it with its original graphics. It would be cool if you can still select the CGA/EGA/VGA and now modern (SVGA?) graphics. Never thought of what's in the background and didn't expect to see trees in this particular level.

It is my understanding that this port should let you play the game with new assets, as well as the originals, at least from the DOS version (although a Facebook post of Romero I posted above also shows an Apple II version shot:
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... 0304081289).

Originally I just wanted to update about Romero's latest tweet, so I didn't refer to any other post or so.

On another note, Romero has been uploading some videos to a Vimeo account of him. These include some looks into the Dangerous Dave port, showing parts of the development process. Note that there are chances you'll need to scroll a bit (or just filter by keyword) in order to locate these videos.
