SkyFrontier 3D: a neat reworking of SkyRoads for phones

Post by Keening_Product »

I don't always install mobile phone games, but when I do they are Ingress, crappy quizzes and SkyRoads clones.

SkyFrontier 3D is like Skyroads in so many ways it's easier to list the differences:
-Graphics are, unsurprisingly, updated a bit.
-You don't control your speed. Surprisingly this isn't a big negative, just removes some of the complexities of the original game while creating some replacement challenges.
-Oxygen and fuel are not concerns. Adding oxygen would've been a nice touch, but given this game has three speed modes might make hard levels too hard if oxygen isn't ridiculously easily accessible.
-You use of the phone's gyro for steering, and that is actually a really, really great way to play the game.

The music is nothing special (unlike the Skyroads soundtrack which I listen to frequently because I like it that much) but it's nice and fits the game. The tile designs/textures are surprising on some levels (there's a strange ornate carpet design for one sector), but that's not bad.

The good thing is that despite the above changes, the game still feels like Skyroads. It's a fun, enjoyable game with good controls (tap to jump and the aforementioned gyro steering), graphics and so on. There's even an easy-to-use level editor and a new endurance play mode, so although it's a clone it brings something new to the table.

Anyway, the free version is supported by a really annoying ads system, but the full version is like $1 and the game is worth that. Check it out, it's in the Google Play store and might be in the iStore.
