Castle Wolfenstein goes nuts!

Post by VikingBoyBilly »

I downloaded the freeware castle wolfenstein, and I don't mean the 3D one by ID. I mean the prehistoric original, well, the DOS port, that is. When I start it, all the guys are zooming back and forth like hummingbirds. And when I press a button, I go careening into a wall at the speed of light and die in the blink of an eye. :dead I can't play this game at the speed it's moving. How do I slow it down?

Defrag your computer, do a Norton Virus check and start up Windows Update...all at the same time.

Dosbox will definitely do the trick. Slow down the CPU cycles in the config file.

Avoid Norton. Use AVG. However, I doubt Lava's suggestion will solve anything in this situation.

I'll second [edit: third] what Memsys says: Use DOSBox. If that doesn't help, get Mo'Slo and use that from within DOSBox on the game's exe. (i.e. moslo filename.exe)

I shall heed your warning about AVG 8. I still use 7.5. I tried Avast several years ago on a quest for lightweight software, but it seemed uncomfortable to me. I'll give it another chance sometime.

Hmm. Four sentences starting with I. :dead

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured out how to press Ctrl+F11 all by myself. What would I ever do without a community of geniuses like you to turn to :o Now I just need to get used to all of wolfensteins weirdo controls :dead2

Sadly I don't know, since I've never played Wolfenstein before. I remember seeing it on a floppy disk in our stash of floppies back in the 90s, and I thought it was some horror game combining Werewolves and Frankenstein's monster so I was too afraid to play it. It was a bootleg copy, so apparently my dad did copy that floppy.
