Here's a nice little read on what Romero and Carmack have been doing in gaming and tech since their partnership fell apart. Tom Hall gets a mention, but sadly (though understandably) there is an implication that Romero is not interested in revisiting old projects. That's not really a blow as the game was Hall's baby and it's Hall who has been the one seeking the rights.

//Nicely written article spoiler alert// For me, the most striking line was "we never talk to John Carmack," where "we" is pretty much the entire id software team. Though I suppose that has been implied for a long time if not actually publicly stated.
I also never knew Dangerous Dave was so huge in India! Now the mobile release makes total sense.
