So today I got to play the beta and I gotta say it has more to do with Commander Keen 4 than I previously thought!

Especially the first level. Ok similarities:
1. The environment - similar to what Keen 4 is at the beginning. There are a lot of trees and some of them have faces and some of them are sleeping.
2. The small houses you enter are similar to the houses you enter in Keen 4.
3. There are moving platforms just like in Keen 4 that can move left/right or up/down.
4. There are also platforms (in a form of leafs) that when you jump on them and stay for a little while, they fall.
5. Secret hidden areas, just like in Keen 4-6. The main difference is that when you enter such area, it opens and you can see where are you going.
6. Keen pogo non-direct reference.
7. Heck, the boy itself looks keenish to me.
8. There is some kind of ledge grabbing. The robot behind you sometimes pushes you up.
9. There are some poles you can climb in the second level.

Main disadvantages:
1. The robot in your backpack could have been made to be more useful. Right now it doesn't do much.
2. You need a solid videocard to play flawlessly (oh well, time for ANOTHER upgrade!). For example, Giana Sisters also looks spectacular, but plays much better on mediocre videocards.
3. You can get stuck in several places. And when you get stuck, you need to restart the whole game, which sucks. But I give this to being a beta, so it's kind of normal.

Overall, I'm actually quite enjoying this game! I'm even surprised. I didn't expected it to be so good. It plays really well and it doesn't feel boring or repetitive to me. I liked the generic jokes. I even want to explore and look for secrets, which is not common in modern games.

Definitely check that game out!

Yup, 2nd-ing what Roobar said (still getting used to your new username :confused )

I'm enjoying myself with it, although it's definitely a more shooty platformer than keen (spray bullets everywhere)

Edit: for Keen's blaster, start from that bridge to the right and run to the left. when you reach the edge of that leafy platform, jump. If you time it right you should make it onto that hanging branch

This is how the world map might look like:

Soo, a lot of you probably don't know, and I guess don't even care, but recently, Interceptor was renamed to Slipgate Studios and made a deal with THQ, which is a big publisher, to further fund Rad Rodgers. This means more levels and bigger realization of their original intentions for that game. Cool news altogether. But I'm writing because I saw this:

That's great news. Nice to see those stretch goals being reached.

I hope someone makes an actual Keen mod to this ;)

Also, I'd be interested to see VR support for this. For example Lucky's Tale was a lot of fun even though it's a platformer (and a 3D one).

So in the recent kickstarter update:

If you ask me, that's Commander Keen with a pogo stick!

This is quickly turning into a straight-up copy of the Commander Keen character with the unnecessary and highly annoying addition of a sentient gaming console with the emotional intelligence of a two-year-old.

I was reminded of the Crazy Frog when I saw that pose.
