New Jazz Jackrabbit editor

Post by Newspaz »

Well, it's not exactly new.

I released my Jazz Jackrabbit editor a couple of months ago now. But I decided it was time for a shameless plug for a non-Jazzers audience. Because no one (except for one person) has even bothered to build a level with it.

You might have seen the old JCS'94 editor, which lacked features and sometimes screwed up levels when saving.

J1E
Features
  • Sprite preview
  • Mask editor
  • Character animation picker
  • Accessory animation picker
  • Sound picker
  • Animation sequence editor
  • Event editor
  • Movement editor for special enemies such as bees
  • Save game creation
You can download it here.

Looks great.

I've always been a friend of Jazz so I'll probably try it out sometime.

Hey, I found and downloaded that some time ago. It's really cool and advanced, but I'm not really a level creator anymore so I haven't made a thing with it so far. :)
Wow look at me I'm lurking

Jazz and Keen are good buddies ;)
Jazz having such a weak fanbase is depressing though :(

I disagree. They have a much bigger community and they've released thousands of levels and such. Anyway the editor looks good, but too bad it's lacking documentation.

Hey there, Newspaz. One of these days I've gotta get JJ2 reinstalled and jump back on for old time's sake.

Nah. It's just that the fanbase is really based on JJ2, so anything JJ1 related tends to get left in the dust.

The only thing that could make this editor even more awesome would be a time machine so that I could go back and give the editor to my 15-year-old self.

Of course, that might change the course of history so that I never got into making my own games and trying to haxxor other games' level maps...

Jazz Toons, would the world ever be the same again?

As an addition to this, our own Levellord has made a graphics editor (Beta) which I helped on! http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downlo ... 5471#29435

It edits most of the graphics, including tiles and sprites. (Though music conversion is hit and miss.) And works best of you drag and drop the files you want to modify onto the executable.

Possibly you mean 'forgive'?

But I always figured he'd meet a dumber, hungrier creature. (Though I am curious, I have heard this several times, but can't figure it out, is this some sort of Keen community meme?)

Oh, yes I do..
I'm swedish you know.. This "english"-thing we're doing here on the internet isn't that easy :(

I don't know.
The "Second dumbest creature in the universe"-thing refers to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, right? Or is that just what we think?
Might Spaz actually be the dumbest?

EDIT: Or wait, you talking about why we compare Dopefish to Spaz? If that's what you mean.. It's because of the easter egg in Jazz Jackrabbit 2. Or am I just being dumb too, now?

No I believe you are right on both accounts.

The "dumbest animal in the universe" quote is from one of Douglas Adams' newer Hitchhikers Guide books. I forget which one but it wasn't particularly interesting. I believe that he was talking about sheep but it's hard to say as the animals were not named. Apparently they are so stupid that they believe if "You can't see them, they can't see you."

"Spaz ate the Dopefish" is a direct quote from Jazz Jackrabbit 2. You find it on a sign in one of the levels.

Partially correct. It's the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal that's the dumbest creature in the universe, and I believe it's mentioned in the very first book.

But I also remember the sheep being called extraordinarily dump, because they're astounded every time the sun rises (=every day).
While trying to find that quote, I found something else is taken from the Hitchhiker books: Wowbagger (you know the mod) is from "So Long...".
