I've introduced a couple of people I've met on trains to CG. My sister reported hearing someone playing Commander Keen on my line on the morning this update was released (Australian time) - I can only assume they were playing after getting the update!
Keening_Product was defeated before the game.

I think that legally there is very little difference between distributing Keen6 with or without the (very weak) copy protection that it came with. Also, Keen 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 etc are not really any different legally after 20 years to Keen6. And I doubt the IP holders are keeping a hawk-like watch over Commander Genius' every move. So I'd have no issue with leaving the copy protection out. There was already a widespread patch .com file bypassing it in the original Keen6.
As 'lass was unable to say, there actually is a very big difference: one is legal (assuming you are an authorized distributor), and the other is illegal (provided you do not have the permission of the rights holder). Of course, if you were speaking of the unauthorized distribution of Keen 6 then you are correct, there is legally very little difference, in both cases it is illegal.Benvolio wrote:I think that legally there is very little difference between distributing Keen6 with or without the (very weak) copy protection that it came with.
Whether the rights holder really cares though is, of course, questionable.
No one would have beleived, that in the first years of the 21st Century, that keener affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of Big Business. No one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinized as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few keeners even considered the possibility of rights holders caring. And yet, across the gulf of legality, minds immeasurably inferior to ours regarded this forum with envious eyes, and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us.
What you really need, not what you think you ought to want.

The last Enemy AI Fleex has been implemented today. There there are some details in Keen 6 missing, like the AIs need small improvements but it's quite playable now.
