Hello,
NOTE: I'm not talking about HQP, that's another thing. This is about a filter we could program to make EGA games look more gorgeous.
I just thought of some filter experiments to make Commander Keen look better:
So tell me in this poll. Do you see any difference?
Do you like it? One of those uses a filter and tries to use more colors to represent the cartoonish style of Keen as we know it. I think it is a nice filter, but at the first you don't see that much. Well, it's my opinion. What do you think? Please zoom it first to see the differences.
What differences do you see in these two images comparing left and right side?
For CG I could add this filter later in the future and make some EGA game look a bit more polished but still retain the original style using more colors.
Maybe you know a better filter that could be used. Let us know about it...

One side looks slightly anti-aliased. But it's really hard to tell without stripping out the EGA colors. Some areas you can tell if it's primarily 2 colors like the red road with dark red rocks/bumps in it. You have to zoom in using mspaint or something, instead of using your browser as it blurs both images.

I found it easier to see the difference than guynietoren. As neat as the system on the right is, I prefer the shots on the left.
But that might just be because I'm used to jaggy Keen worlds.

I believe that there is no correct filter for processing pixel art. Something ALWAYS gets lost in translation. (Although I must admit, I'm impressed with how this filter handled dithering...) The only solution that wouldn't result in loss is to enhance the graphics is to recreate all images in higher resolution.
