Commander 1-3 in VGA?

Post by gerstrong »

Hi there,

to rapidly explain what exactly I mean, I want to show you some screenshots:

So, those are not fakes. The gameplay is the same, and it's applied to all levels. Nevertheless, as you see in the first screenshot. Not all tiles are already VGA.

The trick is that CG next release will support True-Colour Tilesets, and if somebody wants them, also sprites.

Those tiles will be used instead of the old ones.

Now here comes my petition. I'm looking for someone who wants to make look the tileset of Episode 3 better.

Tulip is working on the tileset of EP1 and I am on of EP2. We need someone for EP3. If someone wants to make it, we would be very grateful and he will be honoured like every person, that made nice things for us :-)

Smudge much? How are you accomplishing this?

Levellass: CG = Commander Genius = CloneKeenPlus. There's been a high quality pack for quite some time now, but CG is changing to have hi-color tiles instead of complete images for maps instead.

This is nice, but could you take the screenshots in original or 2x sizes only please? It barely compares otherwise...

I was wondering... is it possible for the game to support vector graphics, like SVG or something? That'd give the games nice, smooth graphics, at every resolution.

With CG, sure. But it'd be a pain to implement. Especially since the graphics library used, SDL, is really more for bitmapped games. It's much easier to just filter it with HQ*x filters (and allow for extra double-size HQP graphics later on).

*Reaches WAAAY over to hit the quote button.* :P

That would be REALLY awesome to see, but how would it do with preformance?
Vector graphics tend to take a lot more processing power to display than bitmaps.

That reminds me of Glen Rhodes' Flash Keen.

Well, unless there's a lot of gradients or blurred graphics (I know svg can do both of these), I can't imagine there being too much of a drop in "preformance" (:P).
It's just an option, too, so it's not like you'd be forced into using it. If someone's computer can't handle the vector mode, they can switch back to VGA or standard mode.

I don't think Keen needs it. Sure, the game is supposed to be cartoony, but really, so many games do, and they just use a prerendered style. Keen doesn't have any ingame zooming capabilities, the only time things ever get resized is when you're playing at high resolutions, and gerstrong fixed this by introducing filters. Hopefully high-res graphics support will be implemented next, that's still a lot easier than implementing SVG and you can create and render source SVG files to a bitmap format anyway.

That's a spambot? But it spells so badly and sounds so 12-year-old. What could it possibly want us to buy?

Also, that quizz can be won by sheer luck, it's bound to happen.
