Hi There.

Post by TheHumbleSavage »

Can any of you please help me with something?

I need to get Keen 2,3, 5, & 6 working on CGenius (Commander Genius)

I use a Big Sur Macbook, but I can't get them working.

Please send me a list of instructions.

Thanks, Humble/Greed.

I think, by "Windows", you mean MS-DOS!

I recommend the 8086 processor, personally.

:old Well now I feel obligated to try to help.

First thing you'll need to do is make sure you have your own working copies of Keen 2, 3, 5, and 6. They are not legally free to download which is why you will not find them in the default CGenius packages. Have you acquired them somehow? For instance, if you purchased Commander Keen on Steam?

I got them via a friend who has the Internet Archive versions.

Ok, so, it's been a long time since I used a Mac or Commander Genius but I'll try to figure out as much as I can.

Inside the CGenius data folder there should be a subfolder called "games". This would be where you put your copies of the various games you want to play. There may be a "keen1" and "keen4" folder already inside of there that you can look at for reference.

So a working copy of Keen 1, with all the files required for the game to run, would be inside a folder structure such as this:

Code: Select all

.../CGenius/games/keen1/

The question is where the CGenius data folder is located. It should be somewhere in the part of the system that has the configurations for the different apps. From some brief googling I think this sounds like the place to look:

Code: Select all

~/Library/Application Support/
So if this is correct you might copy all of your game folders into a directory like this:

Code: Select all

~/Library/Application Support/CGenius/games/

There would likely be a version number on the CGenius folder name, so look for it in Application Support if that direct link doesn't work. Let me know if this works because I don't have a Mac to test it on.
