DOS/Windows 9x game reminiscences by Koshka

Post by Quillax »

Remember when I shared the Shadowlands fan-shrine from Koshka's Kingdom nearly two years ago? That website with DOS game shrines (among many, many other things)? Well, since then, Koshka added a sub-section to his DOS games page (AKA the Mystery Mansion), where he writes about his experiences and feelings on some DOS/Windows 9x games:

There may be no Commander Keen reminiscence yet (it IS planned), but what's there is pretty cool! There's quite a lot to read; it's fun to see what those games were like to him and there's even some neat trivia! I particularly enjoyed his retrospective on Doom, even though I've (admittedly) never played Doom! Some of the experiences he typed about there seem similar to how I experienced Keen.

Neat site. I wonder how many visitors it gets?
Definitely gives off the late 1990s Geocities vibes...

Although you say "he", but "koshka" means "female cat"...
Member since at least 1998 with... ah... some long absences. I was even a moderator at one point. I'll probably keep coming back here and there as long as this place still exists.

Well, his guestbook gets a lot of comments, so I assume the site gets lots of visitors.

While "koshka" does mean "female cat", the guy has stated in the main and "About Me" pages that he's male. In the latter, Koshka explained why he used that word and not "kot" (male cat):
Koshka wrote: My online alias is the default Russian word for cat. "Koshka" also functions as the feminine form of cat, as opposed to the male form which is "Kot". My reasoning for using the female form is partially because it is the default one, and partially because it is meant to be a tribute to the dear female cat who was the best friend that I ever had.
