Looking at let's say a game using the Wolfenstein, Blake Stone or Doom engines for this sort of stuff.
I think it would be cool to see
How would a 3D game with Keen stuff sound?
Re: How would a 3D game with Keen stuff sound?
It's been tried several times.
Adapting Keen to another genre generally ends up coming across as "just shove a bunch of Keen assets in an unrelated game" and doesn't usually work out too great. I could see potential in a specifically-built-around-Keen 3D game if done well, most likely using the Crash Bandicoot approach to level design rather than the more typical 3D platformer style.

You should play the secret maps in Wolfenstein Blade of Agony

That looks cool. Reminding me of Wolfenstein Young Blood which I'm yet to play.Tormentor667 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 20:56 You should play the secret maps in Wolfenstein Blade of Agony

Yep, it would have to be something along those lines because in order to be Keen, you are probably going to need some form of jumping.
Doom or Wolfenstein mods with Keen enemies replacing the original enemies would be cool (and probably already exists) but if you want to make something brand new, something that shouts "Yes! This feels like Keen but in 3D!" instead of "This feels like reskinned Doom!" then you would need some good movement and jumping options. I've played many 3D games that are fangames/spinoffs of their 2D counterparts, and I have yet to run into one that feels truly faithful to its original. Would love to see more approaches towards this style, though!

I kinda feel that games just don't keep their "feel" very well when translated between 2D and 3D. Lemmings is one of the few games I can think of that worked quite well in both, at least in theory (Lemmings 3D was held back a bit by poor level design and some bad interface designs, but the core gameplay is pretty solid - fanmade content and a clone engine with better UI prove this).
