Hi there!

I'm just doing a playthrough of Planet Cloudius IX. I'm just wondering, how do I reach Secret Level 5: Battle Island?

Just popping into this thread to remind everyone that the Pirate's Secret Cove level has a pub door in it that says to check it after Christmas because "you won't believe your eyes". Wonder what that could be about...

It's obviously a reference to the ending of Keen 5:

See you Christmas '92 when Commander Keen returns to battle for the universe! It'll be the biggest Keen ever! You won't believe your eyes!

But maybe there's something else to it as well...

This is the closest thing to a more modern Commander Keen game I've seen. So fun.

Just looking on the keenWiki... there's 4 maps I've never encountered: Spaceship Crash Site, Twisted Tower, Zombaiotlet Mayhem! and Escape The Cave.

Are these accessible levels?

They are all accessible. The crash site is near the beginning of the game. You have to complete a particular level to open the other three.

So it took only a few years and not once did I press the left arrow after starting a game for Spaceship Crash Site

I think I've found the last barrier I need to bring down with a crystal but I have none left and only parkour, ninja run and pogo challenge unfinished. Do any of these three optional level reveal a crystal? TIA

Focus on the pogo challenge.

I think in retrospect, I did a lot of mistakes. One of these mistakes is the access to these levels you haven't played. All the optional levels that you haven't completed, should have been unlocking secret areas gradually as a reward by each completed level. Instead, only one level unlocks an area with several levels. Because of that, most people have missed these additional levels as it requires backtracking and is not clear enough.

No there is absolutely nothing wrong with the design here, or the need to backtrack on the map. This is one of those great games I keep coming back to and lately I've been carefully inspecting every level, trying to find everything. I'm hopeless at those optional levels but with the help of saving was able to complete all 3. No crystal in the Pogo Challenge or the others!
So there's only the level with the girl left... and completing that ends the game... so I'm still one crystal short so I can't remove the barrier.
Can the locked door of the little house above Guard Post 2 be opened?
I feel like I've given this place a good honest search.

Not sure which barrier you cannot open. After completing the pogo challenge level, the area should automatically open. No crystals required.

The barrier is in the passage above Dangerous Dome. You can pass under the land to reach it after completing this level.
The message says: "Oh noes! A barrier again. It is blocking the way to a teleport. I may need to find a crystal shard to lift it."

I'll load up an earlier save and keep a crystal free as it will get me thru and maybe there is a replacement on the other side, or else I'll still be short one...

EDIT: it does replace your crystal, so you must make sure not to leave it 'til last.
So now there's only Tower and Zombie levels to find!
