Nice find! So it turns out Jazz 1 wasn't copying Sonic, but rather Turrican?

Now, that's been an unexpected release. Albeit quite early at this stage, at least a few hints of what would find itself in JJ1 may be observed.

I wonder if the jazz/sonic direction came from Tim Sweeney. I heard that he bought Allen Pilgrim (Xargon creator) a Sega Genesis with Sonic and told him to play it to consider what makes a fun and popular game. He also wasn't averse to recommending detailed game concepts to people, like directing James Schmalz to make Epic Pinball based on a Finnish demo of a pinball game from Future Crew.
