Keen Awards 2024: Winners

Post by Quillax »

Welcome to the final results for Keen Awards 2024! I, Quillax, your host, am happy to see how well 2024 went! There was so much Keen stuff coming out, and I'd like to thank you all of those who participated in this annual event to make it a true celebration of the Keenest of Keen! I hope we can also make 2025 as Keen of a year too, if not even Keener!

Alas, no trophies have been made. Lava89, who has been the go-to person for crafting trophies in the last few years, seems to have went inactive in early 2024. If anyone is willing to step up and make trophies, though, then be my guest!

Without further ado, here are the results for Keen Awards 2024! Congratulations to all the winners!

Congratulations for the winners from my part as well.

And I'm glad as well that even if Keen Dreams Gold didn't become the best mod (yeah-yeah, bugs and such), but glad it became almost popular. :birthday
Yeah, piece of cake!

On the other hand, all the discussion of bugs makes the release thread longer and makes it appear more popular. :dopekeen But generally, yeah, the more bugs are fixed, the more it will be played. I know some people, including me, are holding off on trying it for now.

Speaking of "Most Promising Project", when I looked at it last a day before the deadline, it was tied between the updated versions of "Foray in the Forest" and "Keen Meets the Meats", and I thought that was about right so I didn't vote. Looks like someone broke the tiebreak. If I had seen that in time, I would have voted for "Keen Meets the Meats" to even it out again.

Congrats to all the winners, and thanks to all those who voted for me. The best Galaxy mod category was pretty tense throughout, and it was fun competing for it with you, Szemi. I had no idea I would win the best graphical artwork, especially since artwork was so good this year.

And thanks to Quillax, who has been a wonderful host, and also for making the right choice for separating the soundtrack into two categories, as I do feel that songs in Dreams were overall better, even more so since it's a first Dreams mod with music; I think it deserved to win the best music award. Not to mention checking which nominations were valid and being very open to the idea of how categories should be handled. Great job, Quillax!

I did work hard on creating some new ideas with levels in my RoB, but Szemi made some great levels that felt just like a good expansion to his Gold Edition, and I am glad my favorite level from his mod won. Congrats, Szemi! :D

Congratulations to all nominees and a big thank you to Quillax for running the show and everyone who voted for me :) every year I hope the next Keen Awards has as much good stuff to show off as the previous and so far I've never been disappointed, it's amazing how this community just keeps going.

Congratulations to all the winners of the 2024 award ceremony! And thank YOU Quillax for stepping up to host it this year! It's amazing just how much incredible Keen content we are getting now, and that so many people are either coming back, or joining the forums as newcomers! Here's to another year of new Keen content!

Congratulations to the winners, and also to the remaining nominees (who differ from me)!

Additionally, thanks Quillax for hosting this year, and also for nominating my updated level pack, "Aliens Ate My Babysitter ...Again 15th Anniversary", i.e., AAMBA15Y (somehow missed it earlier); Further thanks to the ones voting for it, of course.

To be honest, I kinda thought of AAMBA15Y potentially belonging to a kind of a separate "Comebacks" category. However, that could be unfair to new completed projects with much more contents to see. It should be better to encourage newer projects requiring more work. Therefore, listing AAMBA15Y under the same category/thread as "Keen Dreams Gold Edition by szemi" and "Revival of Bliss by Dave216" looked like a good choice to me.

A bit off-topic, let's bring up my nomimation of The Omnispeak Modding Preview Kit by Multimania. I don't know if the voting results were related to the preview kit thread in question being created under the "Unofficial Keen Games" sub-forum (probably not), or maybe the purpose of the preview kit was not sufficiently clear. The way I see it, the idea here is granting more possibilities for modders without source modding, so players will be able (with greater chances) to use future versions of Omnispeak for playing mods released earlier.

To be fair I felt the same way with Mura being nominated. And now I feel a bit like a jerk for not speaking up about it before voting started but the old one level demo already won in the same categories 3 years ago and thinking about it now I'm not sure if it should qualify to enter the contest again, at least in the overall vorticon mod category.
Nevertheless the awards still bring attention to all nominated projects whether they win or not, and that's what I think is most important. :)

Cool stuff. I really haven't been active on PCKF or played much Keen at all lately, but i haven't abandoned keen entirely!!!!! I'm tempted to whip up some 90s cgi style trophies but no guarantees, i'm way too busy with doom modding nowadays :P One of these days i'm gonna make a proper Galaxy mod i swear, even if it's only like 3 levels........

Honestly, I was a bit frustrated when Mura took over the polls because mine was the only full Vorticons mod released all year. But still, I respect you winning, as while creepy, your mod is also much higher quality than mine, and I'm fine with that. Congrats to Nospike, and all the other winners! I also want to say thanks for nominating my level pack and for the one vote. So question, since we are discussing if projects can be nominated again. How does this apply to my level pack then? Do I have a chance to be nominated again if I release a more complete version? Or is it specific that projects that have already won should not be nominated again? Not that I specifically expect to win next, although I could have a chance if I am the only one that releases a vorticon level pack in 2025. And what about the life of Mars? Since the last update was in 2025. I'm asking because right now it looks it is my biggest competition. Although logically I would have to be fair to say that if I can be nominated again then maybe that one should be considered too.

Since both you and me are preparing big updates to these mods (You're working on levels, I'm adding Yorp messages and replacing levels), I'd say that both should be eligible for nomination again if the updates are large enough.

(Also 100th post! And I've only been here for 4 months! Hurrah!)
