Hi. I would like to present a playable early access beta version of my mod titled "get my stuff".

It contains 5 playable levels and can be completed.

getmystuff0.1

I plan to continue working on this in the future though I'm also not entirely sure how much.

I would be interested if anyone has ideas for improvement. If people send in tiles or levels to add to this mod I will be happy to consider them. Feel free to post it here. This can also be graphics that are not new.

The difficulty should not be so excessive to deter too many players especially in the early levels. I will be willing to reconsider things here and there to improve playability.

I don't really have a story and I'm not sure how much I care about it. But the premise is keen visits another planet. Somehow they stole all his important items (pogo, raygun, teddy bear) and now he has to get them back before leaving. Somehow the vorticons are involved again.

The current title is not great and might get replaced at some point.

I already have a plan for a garg replacement. The tank bot is still open technically, I think I will make it similar to a normal tank bot or make it a shootable enemy.



Most of the graphics are taken from other games, other keen mods or from the original keen. This will probably stay this way but some of it might be more polished later.

vorticons can be stunned by landing on them and the butler robot replacement disappears when shot. (it also flies with a patch from keen wiki).
These features are actually a challenge in terms of letting the player know that you can do that. In that case showing the video may help with that. the same with letting the player know the butler replacement is shootable. because often players tend to assume that a creature has the same features as the one it replaces in the original game.

Looks great from what I can see in the video, looking forward to trying the beta!

Keep thinking of more original graphics and you might end up with an all time classic on your hands!

Congratz on the (partial) completion of your first work.

I also don't have the artistic skills to make graphics that are decent enough that I am satisfied with it most of the time. For my last project, I searched for free graphics on itch.io so I could at least present graphics that weren't used in a keen mod before.

Are you sure about that? It's not a problem I have seen before with these type of files. Has anyone else got this problem? I have no idea what triggered this or how to solve that.

Update:

I have been working on this mod a bit more and have a preview video to show you.

I now have a replacement for the garg, the tankrobot and the ice cannon

The grag replacement is fairly similar to a regular garg. but he jumps when walking and doesn't jump when charging.

the tankbot is also similar to a normal one but shoots and turns faster. It also can be destroyed

the ice canon now fires bullets instead of ice. similar to keen 3 and other keen 1 mods

Oh, and the music is not part of the actual mod by the way. It's just added to the video.

Really nice work. Great level design on display in that video it has to be said. Almost a fusion of Keen2 and Keen3 style level. And great sprite patching work too, that's certainly one of the project's strengths at present.

I like some of the layouts with ice cannons. In fact, I can think of some cool stuff that could be done with on-off bridges with the ice-cannons to bring more puzzle solving into the game. If only I had time...

The quest for new original graphics continues however. You've done a great job reskinning Keen1. It has, for obvious reasons, taken on a Cosmo-ish feel which I like! But original tiles and sprites would take the whole project to the next level! Why not look at some of the early Vorticon mods for inspiration. Maybe someone can collaborate with you on this! I'd almost think of doing so myself but I'm awful at sprites. Maybe some tiles though... we shall see!

I really like the castle aesthetics. Would like if you convert the whole mod into a castles themed one.

Thanks, it is a part of the focus of this project. I feel there is a lot of unused potential in the available patches.

the bridge would actually block the shots as it is. so that would be a mechanic that would work. I can't really come up with any more complex puzzle myself though with it right now.

Yea it does need a bit more work to feel complete, I agree. But if you are recommending me to create brand new graphics that aren't borrowed from other games. Well, it may be a good idea but it is not really a project I am planning much for to realize.

well yea that is a good idea and I have already done so. And I shall do so again. But it is not always easy to take something that is designed to fit a certain theme and put it in a different theme and still feel pleased with it.

I wouldn't mind if a bunch of people send in some stuff. especially since I view the patchwork mod somewhat as an inspiration. However I'm not sure if I really see it happening. I kinda wonder how they got so many people to send in stuff back in the day. I suppose the community is a bit less active now also.

well, I kinda have 2 castle themes now. So im not sure if I'm gonna keep the grey stones as really castle castle. I guess I will keep them as a kind of fort (if there is a difference) much like keen 3. which it already feels a lot like now with the cannons (obviously)
