"Venom 3 The Last Dance"

Few greats from the 70s recently seen for the first time
"Frenzy" (I've known most of my Hitchcocks for decades but I think Dad deliberately sequestered the Frenzy DVD from the box set for my protection, never to be recirculated even though I'm really old now). Oh well, Youtube rentals are easy and cheap! Great fun movie and a stunning insight into how much the city in which I currently live has changed in 50 years. Covent Garden for ordinary people and not tourists... what a concept!
"Soylent Green" which is increasingly alluded to as life gets grimmer with each passing year... great movie, lots of poignant human humour amongst the utter horror.
And "Alien", a classic very familiar to most but one which passed me by (again, Father has always railed against it). A crude and somewhat simplistic story but the actual delivery and film-making is incredibly beautiful, right up with the other staples such as Star Wars and 2001. I hear some of the sequels are great and I look forward to them.

Just went yesterday to see "A Complete Unknown" the new movie about Bob Dylan's early years. Really enjoyed it immensely, being a huge fan of all things (well, almost all things) Dylan. It's an impeccably made retelling of one of the most iconic and inspiring origin stories in music history. But equally it's honestly made, showing his flaws and the immaturity of his youth. In doing so, it not only sheds light on what went into the songs in the era depicted (which is up to mid 1965), but for me it actually also illustrates autobiographical subject matter that informed (at least in part) works for the subsequent decade and more. The acting was fantastic and my respect for Mr Chalamet has gone up significantly (not that I've saw him in much prior to this besides the questionable Star Wars films). Also lovely to see such nice depictions of other legends such as Pete Seeger, Johnny Cash and of course Woody himself. The latter's music is hugely familiar to me as my dad (in one of his meticulously choreographed and most definitely not accidental feats of parenthood) drove us around the country back roads for several years with old Woody songs playing, infusing our brains in the tales of Tom Joad and Pretty Boy Floyd, before only then proceeding to unleash a motherload of Dylan records upon us to enjoy in proper context! All in all, a movie that will resonate hugely for anyone who has appreciated this highly important section of twentieth century culture.

I saw Tron: Ares in theaters the other day.
The main reason I saw this movie is because I heard Nine Inch Nails did the music, which is their first release in 5 years. I wanted to hear the soundtrack on a theater's sound system, and I thought it was pretty good. I didn't realize Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were executive producers on this movie either.
The movie itself is alright. I felt it was a fun but average watch, and I do recommend it at least for a one time viewing.
