In the meanwhile, BioMenace Remastered is still being updated. From Niko (yesterday):

Added a new bonus level by Roobar, new winter themed tiles for use in the level editor, and a few fixes.

Additionally, as of 9 days ago, the demo was updated to v2.5, bringing bug fixes and features added to the full version beforehand.

There's now a public beta of BioMenace Remastered with mod.io integration:
lethal_guitar wrote:Hey @everyone! As you may know, we've been working on integrating mod.io into BioMenace Remastered for a while. Mod.io offers very similar features to Steam Workshop, but also works for GOG users, and in case we'll do console ports of the game at some point later it'll also be supported there. It makes it possible for level creators to upload their custom levels to the mod.io platform directly from the game's level editor, and then everyone can browse and play those levels easily from the game's menu. It's no longer necessary to manually download files, place them in the right directory, etc. Mod.io also offers a rating system for levels, and the level browser can sort by different criteria, etc.

We're now very close to the finish line, which is why we're releasing a public beta of this new feature on Steam and GOG right now! If you'd like to already check it out and play some user levels, here's how you can switch to the beta version:

Steam

Right-click the game in your Steam library, click "Properties", go to the "Game Versions & Betas" tab, and then select "modio-beta" in the list. You can go back to the regular build of the game any time by selecting "Default" in this list.

GOG

Select the game in GOG Galaxy, click the settings icon, click "Manage Installation" -> "Configure", and select "modio-public-beta" from the "Beta Channels" drop-down.

We plan to run the beta for about a week or so, and then we'll release a big update for the stable version of the game with this feature included.

The beta version also includes other changes that will be in the upcoming update, most notably new desert/Egyptian/temple themed tiles, a new bonus level, and some editor improvements.

This update adds mod.io support, which means you can now browse (and rate) user made levels directly from within the game, and upload your own creations directly from the editor for the community to enjoy. There are already 20 user levels available at this time 👀 - go check them out if you haven't yet!

On top of this, there's also a brand new bonus level, new tiles (desert & ice themes, plus some other ones) and parallax backgrounds, and various improvements and new features (even including new mechanics like teleportation!) in the level editor.

Beta users: If you've already been using the beta version of this update, make sure to switch back to the regular main branch ("Default" on Steam, "Beta Channels: Disabled" on GOG) to get the latest version. Compared to beta 9, there are some additional new tiles, but we won't be updating the beta from now on so you'll want to be back on the main build to keep receiving updates. Also, massive thanks again for everyone who tried out the beta, uploaded levels, gave feedback, etc. - we really appreciate it!

So, fire up the game and enjoy some excellent community created content! Here's a little preview of some levels:
